CHAPTER ONE:
❝︎In And Out Of Limbo❞︎

AFTER THE DEATH OF HER MOTHER, THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS IN ALASKA'S LIFE THAT HAD TAKEN PLACE. For one, she had moved to a new town which meant she was to start a new school where she would be the new girl that would know absolutely no one. Her father had been going off the deep end, drowning deeper and deeper and Alaska wasn't really sure if there was going to be a point of return. All she knew was that she wasn't ready for summer to be over and to start school the next day. Little did she know, she would wish for the exact opposite within a matter of twenty-four hours.

And before she knew it, she was in the school hallways, a deep frown forming on her face as she glanced around herself. She didn't recall driving to school, or her father taking her. Or maybe she had been so sleep deprived that she had completely blacked out until this point in which all of the high school kids ushered through the halls, most of them running towards their class that was all the way on the other side of the building. And yet there she stood dumbfounded, unsure of what to do or where to go.

Her book bag was absent from her shoulders. Books absent from her arms. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her lips were pursed and she couldn't help but move her head back and forth as the kids pushed past her, the hall ways quickly being emptied from the noisy teenagers, turning into an eerie silence that made a shiver run down Alaska's spine. She swallowed thickly before tucking a stand of hair behind her ear.

Alaska hummed softly to herself before deciding to walk down the hallway, the confusion and puzzlement of where exactly it was that she was at showing all over her face. There wasn't any harm in trying to find someone who could at least direct her towards the principal's office. The dark haired woman allowed a sigh to fall through her nose as she tightened her arms around her body, nervousness seeming to ripple through her veins as she continued to walk around the ghost town that was the high school hallways.

She found herself stopping, the glass case filled with trophies from the several games and championships that they had won. And as she stood there, she never once noticed the one thing that everyone seemed to notice when they were staring straight into glass. She didn't notice the fact that her reflection wasn't there. She didn't notice that this was her first sign to let her know the truth, to know that she wasn't actually there, and that she was ghost drifting in and out of limbo with no control as she slowly started dying. Instead of noticing any of that, she just smiled at the many trophies before turning her head and continuing down the hall.

She started humming softly to herself, wondering if she sung loud enough if it would echo down the hall and allow for the soft humming to turn loud and vibrant, making her vocals sound amazing as most empty hallways or stairwells seemed to always do. She found herself hesitating for a moment when she finally caught sight of the name of the school that she was currently placed inside. And she wasn't at all surprised to discover she had managed to make it to Beacon Hills High School.

Her attention was grabbed by the sounds of footsteps echoing down the halls. She turned around, a frown forcing itself onto her lips when she saw no one there. She turned around again, and yet still no one. Curiosity was always a big weakness of hers, and that's why she silently cursed herself as she found herself following after the sound of the footsteps that seemed to grow closer and closer the more that she walked. She placed her against the wall, allowing for her head to peak around the corner just in time to watch a boy exit the bathrooms.

She stared at the back of his head for a few moments, cocking her head slightly. As if he knew that she was there, she watched as he stopped in his tracks. And as soon as she saw him start to turn, she was quick to turn back around the corner, not wanting to embarrass herself by making her first interaction being that of stalking a poor kid that she didn't even know the name of. Alaska had a tendency to embarrass herself during first impressions, and her New Year's goal was to change that. So far it wasn't working out too great.

Liam Dunbar stood there in the hallway for a few moments, his eyebrows were furrowed as he looked around for a second. He could've sworn that he had felt eyes on him only a few moments prior. Deciding Math class was as important, he carefully made his way down the hall, turning the corner in which Alaska had been hidden behind moments before in order to save herself from embarrassment. But once he turned the corner, all he saw was an empty hallway. He frowned for a second before shrugging his shoulders, turning around and walking back to class allowing for Alaska to peak out of her hiding space with the smallest of smiles pulling up at the corner of her lips.
