CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR:
❝︎In This Together❞︎THE WEEK WAS FLYING BY MUCH TOO QUICKLY IN ALASKA'S OPINION. Her nerves had been eating away at her constantly all week, and she was trying her best to push them aside, but nothing was working. She was in complete and utter disbelief with the entire situation. It was Friday, which meant she had to testify in three days, and she was doing everything she possibly could to keep it from her mind. The entire week she had spent time with Liam and today they were supposed to go on their movie date after school which meant she had something to look forward to.
Despite the circumstances, Alaska was excited. Although the couple has had multiple one on one moments, they have yet to go on a date as an official couple and this would be the first. She was standing by her locker, placing her books in her locker that she didn't need for the rest of the school day. She turned her head when footsteps approached her and a kind smile fell on her face when she saw Scott.
"Hey, Scott." Alaska greeted, closing the locker door.
"Hey," Scott smiled. The two of them began walking. "You look excited. Is there an event happening that I don't know about?"
"Mhm." Alaska hummed. "Liam and I are going on our first date tonight."
Scott furrowed his brows. "Haven't you been on multiple dates?"
Alaska rolled her eyes. "Technically, yes. However, this is our first date as an official couple."
"Ah," Scott nodded. He grew silent for a moment, wondering the best way to bring it up, but Alaska read him easily.
"Go ahead." Alaska said, making Scott look at her. "Ask."
"How―︎"
"One thing that didn't change after the incident, I've always been good at reading people. So, ask."
Scott nodded. "Alright. How are you?"
Alaska pushed a curl of hair behind her ear. "Do you want the usual answer or the real answer?"
"The real one."
Alaska hugged her books closer to her chest. "Not good. But, I'm sure that's to be expected. How else does one handle their father trying to get out of jail after claiming he was wrongly accused for brutally assaulting and almost killing his own daughter?" She gave Scott a sarcastic smile before it fell.
"We're going to be there, you know." Scott told her. Alaska looked at him with raised brows. "All of us. He won't try anything, and if you need someone to look at we'll be in the front row."
"You don't have to do that, Scott."
Scott nodded. "I know. But you're my friend and I want to be there for you. So does Lydia and the others. So, we'll be there."
"And if he tries something?" Alaska asked.
"Well, I won't be holding anyone back." He shrugged. "So if something happens, I didn't see it. Your protection is what matters. Making sure you're okay is top priority. And I know that you're not okay right now, but when he gets sent back to jail you'll be able to breathe again. I'll do what I have to do to protect my pack."
"I'm not part of your pack." Alaska said. "I'm no werewolf."
"Neither is Stiles, and he is. You are too." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "We're in this together. You're stuck with us."
Alaska gave him a small smile. "Well, being stuck with you guys doesn't seem to bad. At my old school, I didn't really have friends. I had a few people I would talk to, but that was really all it was. You guys have done so much for me. I met you while I was in limbo, and even though you couldn't see me you chose to believe Liam and help me. I never got to thank you for that, so thank you."
Scott smiled. "It's what we do."
"You guys are crazy." Alaska said with a chuckle. "But you're all good people, and I glad it was all of you that found me." With that, Alaska turned and entered her class, taking a seat beside Liam and offering him a small smile.
"Who were you talking to in the hall?" Liam asked.
"Well, knowing you, you were probably listening in." Alaska replied. Liam went to deny it but Alaska just raised a brow at him and he closed his mouth, nodding. "It was Scott. He caught me at my locker and we just started talking. All good things."
Liam nodded before reaching for her hand and interlacing their fingers. Alaska smiled at him before looking forwards, forcing herself to listen to her teacher and not her racing heartbeat that was echoing in her ears.
After school let out, Alaska went home with Stiles so that she could change and look presentable for her date. She put on light makeup, a pair of jeans and a flowy yellow crop top. She put a silver necklace on and a set of earrings before letting out a deep breath and smiling at herself.
A knock came on her door causing her to turn her head and softly say, "Come in."
Stiles poked his head into the room. "Ready?"
"I think so." Alaska hummed. "I feel like I'm missing something."
"Well, shoes would be helpful."
"That would be what's missing." Alaska mumbled, walking to her closet and pulling out a pair of yellow converse. She quickly tied them before grabbing her small purse that had money inside, putting it on her shoulder before looking at Stiles. "Now I'm ready."
Stiles dropped her off at the theater, telling her to text when the movie ended. Alaska thanked him before watching him pull off. She stood outside, crossing her arms over her chest as she waited for Liam. She pulled her phone out, checking the time and frowning when he wasn't there.
"There you are." Liam's voice came from behind her making her turn around. "I was already inside. I got our tickets and snacks. I probably should've told you I'd be inside."
Alaska let out a breath. "For a second I thought you stood me up."
For a moment, Liam looked almost offended. "I would never stand you up." He pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her waist as she wrapped her arms around his neck, a smile on her lips. "You look beautiful."
"You look handsome yourself."
The two exchanged a soft but sweet kiss, standing like that for a moment before pulling away. Liam nodded his head towards the entrance. "Come on, the movie's about to start."
Alaska grabbed his hand, interlacing their fingers. "Lead the way." Liam smiled at her before leading them inside the building.
