CHAPTER EIGHTEEN:
❝︎Nightmares❞︎WEEKS PASSED, ALASKA HAD FOUND HERSELF FOLLOWING A DAILY ROUTINE. Wake up, get dressed, eat, go to school, spend time with Liam after school, come back to the Stilinski house and do her home work, go to bed and start the cycle all over again the following day. She found that the more comfortable she got, the worse her nightmares became. She would live that day over and over again, and the outcome always ended with her dying and not being found. It would leave her waking up in the middle of the night completely out of breath.
Alaska woke up, running a hand through her hair. She took a deep breath, rubbing her face, before grabbing her phone and checking the time. It was four in the morning. Alaska softly sighed before getting out of the bed, walking to the bathroom and turning on the shower. She stood under the hot water, letting it wash away her nightmares. She stepped out, wrapping a towel around her body. She turned the light on in her room, picking out her clothes before quickly getting dressed.
She glanced at the time again, only to see it was five, which meant she had two hours to kill until school started. It was a Friday which meant she was supposed to go over to Liam's house to have dinner. He swore up and down that his parents wanted to meet her and Alaska was nervous to say the least. She sighed, glancing around her room before standing and straightening up. She had bought some decorations for her room to make it look less boring but she had yet to put them up, now seemed to be the perfect time.
She hung up multiple posters, added a little night light to her wall, she changed her bed sheets and blankets from the dark blue Noah had offered to a soft yellow. She glanced around the room and nodded to herself. She walked to her bathroom, straightening her hair and applying very light make up before making her way down stairs. She looked through the cabinets and fridge before pulling out eggs, bacon, and pancake mix before she began fixing the three of them breakfast.
As she was in the process of cooking, she heard footsteps approached. She turned her head, smiling at the sheriff when he turned the corner. "You're up early," Noah noted.
Alaska shrugged. "Couldn't sleep, figured I would make all of us breakfast." She put eggs, bacon and two pancakes on Noah's plate before giving it to him, passing him the syrup in case he wanted it. "I should probably wake Stiles up."
Noah took a bite of bacon. "Don't worry, he'll smell the bacon and come running."
Not a moment later, footsteps descended down the stairs before Stiles entered the kitchen. "Is that bacon?"
Alaska chuckled, nodding her head. "Yes it is. Would you like some?"
Stiles took a seat beside his father. "Yes I would." Alaska gave him his plate and immediately he began eating it.
"It's not going to run away." Noah commented. Stiles paused, looking at his father with part of a pancake sticking out of his mouth. Noah sighed, closing his eyes and shaking his head. Alaska smiled in amusement before making her own plate and standing on the other side of the counter eating. "I've got to run." Noah said, standing up and putting his empty plate in the sink. "Thank you for breakfast, Alaska."
Alaska nodded. "You're welcome, Mr. Stilinski."
Noah sighed. "We've been over this Alaska, you can call me Noah."
"Right. Sorry."
Noah left, telling the two teenagers to have a good day leaving Alaska and Stiles in the kitchen. "Nightmares again?" Stiles asked.
Alaska looked at him before slowly nodding her head. "How'd you know?"
"Well, I've lived with you long enough to notice your tell." Stiles explained. "You're safe. You know that, don't you?"
Alaska nodded. "I know. I just. . . it plays through my head every night. I mean, it could've turned out completely different. If your friends hadn't found me, I'd be dead. I owe all of you."
Stiles frowned. "Hey, you owe us nothing." He shrugged. "It's what we do."
"All of you are such good people." Alaska said. "Liam's told me a little about what you all have went through, even before he was ever in the picture and I just. . . how did you stay so friendly? How has this supernatural world not made you cold and calculated?"
Stiles thought about it for a moment, setting his fork down. "Well, it's changed us. I mean with Allison's death last year, the nogitsune, all of that really messed some of us up. We do what we do because we try our best to help in the best way possible. Plus, Scott is the true alpha so it seems there's always something or someone coming after him."
Alaska nodded. "How do you do it? You're only human."
"I make mistakes, I learn from them, and I help where I can. I may not have claws and fangs like the others, or the ability to predict death like Lydia, but I'm pretty good at putting the pieces together. I stay out of the fights as much as I can, but being Scott's best friend I'm always going to have a target on my back."
Alaska glanced down at the counter before looking at him. "It seems like I'm not the only one who hasn't been able to be a kid and live their life." Stiles hummed. "I know that I don't know a lot about the world of the supernatural, but if you need someone that doesn't have claws or fangs to help, I'm always available." She gave him a small smile. "Us humans have to stick together."
Stiles nodded. "Thanks."
"It's the least I can do." She reached forwards, taking his plate. "You should get dressed. We need to leave in ten minutes." Stiles nodded before standing up and leaving the room. Alaska put both of their plates in the sink before softly sighing. Their world was crazy, that was for sure. And now, Alaska was part of their world.
