CHAPTER TWO:
❝︎I Can See You❞︎HE FELT LIKE HE HAD BEEN FOLLOWED BY SOMEONE ALL DAY LONG. Maybe it was because the full moon had just past and his senses were still sensitive, but whatever it was it was driving the poor beta absolutely mad. And he didn't know what to say, how to answer Mason's concerning questions. He was positive that Mason already thought he was crazy as it was, he didn't need to actually give him a reason to believe that, so he just kept his mouth shut.
He stood there at his locker, gathering his things for his homework that he would have to do later that night when he felt it. The feeling of someone's eyes burning into the back of his head. It made the hair on his neck stand up straight, his frown deepening greatly as his jaw clenched and his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He shook his head, muttering words to himself before he closed his locker and swung his bag over his shoulder, before suddenly he found himself freezing in place. There she stood, an invisible limelight seeming to cascade over her like a blanket.
She was watching all of the students pass back and forth, a frown covering her gorgeous features as they watched them almost run her over several times as if she wasn't there. He had never seen her before. He would've known if he had, because as cliché as it sounded, she was the most beautiful girl that he had ever seen. It wasn't a wonder why any of the teenage boys that passed her didn't compliment her, or eye her up and down like teenagers do because to them girl's are nothing but an object nowadays. It made his nose scrunch up in disgust at the thought.
He felt his nerves clouding his throat, wrapping tighter and tighter like a boa constrictor. Because when their eyes met, that sense of familiarity seemed to pass through his body. But he knew for a fact that he had never seen this girl in his entire life. He looked around the school hall, biting on the inside of his cheek as he forced himself to look away from her in order to allow the breath to enter his lungs once more. All she was doing was standing there innocently, and she seemed to take his breath away.
He tightened his grip on his book bag, waiting for the last student to trickle out of the hallway before he slowly made his way over to the brunette beauty. Why was he so nervous? His heart beat felt like it was running at a thousand miles per hour. Is this how Scott had felt when he first saw Allison? He had heard a lot about Allison Argent, but hadn't had the chance to meet her due to her untimely demise the year prior. Alaska watched him with curiosity.
"Hello." Alaska was the one to talk first. Her voice was smooth, angelic, and soft. She watched as Liam approached her, cocking her head in slight amusement as she watched all his nervous tic's shine. She couldn't help the smile that fell on her face as she looked at the boy, and it took her a minute to realize that this was the boy that she had seen in the hallways earlier. She couldn't allow the breathy laugh that seemed to leave her lips. "You can see me."
"Of course I can see you." Liam looked at her in slight confusion. "Why wouldn't I be able to see you?"
Alaska innocently shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. But you're the only person that's seemed to care of my presence. Normally new students catch the attention of people because they want to rope that person into their clique, but not a single person has glanced at me today. It's almost as if instead of looking at me they're looking right through me." A soft sigh fell from the girl's lips as she shook her head, but that smile was still there. The smile that Liam couldn't help but find absolutely mesmerizing.
"Well, I can see you." Liam assured the girl, offering her a small smile that she couldn't help but find absolutely adorable. He cleared his throat of the nerves swirling through it. "My name's Liam."
Alaska's smile widened even brighter at this. Maybe this was her chance to make a new friend in a new school. And on her first day too. Something about that made her excited, knowing that she would have someone at lunch to sit with and wouldn't have to sit by herself like she had today. She tucked her dark hair behind her ear before nodding her head, "Alaska Waldrop. It's nice to meet you Liam. . ."
"Dunbar. Liam Dunbar." He quickly ushered out, stuttering over his own name, making him push back his embarrassed blush. He really needed to do better when it came to talking to girls. Especially ones that were drop dead gorgeous and that had such a sunshine personality it almost blinded him.
Alaska smiled seemed to widen even more. How that was possible Liam hadn't a single clue. "Well, Liam Dunbar, it's nice to make your acquaintance. Hopefully I'll see you around?"
"Absolutely." He nodded. Alaska gave him a small wave before turning on her heel and started to walk away from him. Liam watched her go for a moment before noticing something that made him call out to her. She stopped and turned to look at him. "Where's your bag at?"
Alaska pursed her lips for a few moments, noticing that she was indeed missing her bag. She hummed to herself before simply shrugging her shoulders. "I must've forgot it somewhere. Thanks, Liam." And then she walked away, with nothing but confused thoughts feeling her brain.
