CHAPTER SIXTEEN:
❝︎The New Girl❞︎

ALASKA WALDROP HAD BEEN RELIEVED FROM THE HOSPITAL AFTER TWO WEEKS. The doctors needed her to heal before she could go anywhere and they needed to keep an eye on her for any infections or diseases, but when she had been cleared, she left with a slight weight lifted from her shoulders. Her father had been given a life sentence, and now Alaska was trying to find a place to stay. She was only seventeen, she couldn't live on her own just yet and she didn't have any other family to come rescue her.

Naturally, Liam had not hesitated to offer his home to her, but it was Noah Stilinski that had made the final call. Alaska lifted one of the last boxes from the moving truck, walking into the Stilinski home and into her new bedroom. She placed the box on the floor, placing her hands on her hips as she glanced around the room. She turned her head when footsteps approached, Noah and Stiles bringing in the last two boxes.

"That's the last of them," Noah said.

Alaska gave him a small smile. "Thank you for doing this. Are you sure that this isn't any trouble?"

"Not at all." Noah assured. "Listen, if you need anything at all, you let me or Stiles know. I just want to make sure you feel comfortable and that you're safe." Alaska nodded her head. "I'll let you settle in." He left the room, leaving Alaska and Stiles.

"Are you okay with this?" Alaska asked, turning her head to look at Stiles.

"Well, not being the only teenager living in this house is going to take some getting used to, but like my dad said, as long as you're safe." Stiles clapped his hands together. "Let's start unpacking this boxes, yeah?" Alaska's smile widened as she nodded her head.

The two of them spent the rest of the day unpacking and organizing her new room. They talked like they'd known each other for years, Alaska even managing a laugh here and there. She felt safe, she felt comfortable, and the only thing she could truly hope for was that she would be okay. Due to living with the Stilisnki's, she was no longer in the Devenford Prep district, which meant she would have to transfer to Beacon Hills―︎though, she had to admit, she wasn't quite complaining.

In fact, her first day of school was the following morning. Alaska slept peacefully that night knowing that her father would be in jail for a very long time and that nothing could harm her. However, she knew that she would have to face the elephant in the room eventually and that was her feelings with a certain werewolf. The joy and relief she had felt when she saw Liam sitting there when she woke up was almost terrifying, feeling his hand holding onto her own made her stomach swarm with butterflies. Also, the fact that he was an actual werewolf? Most people would freak out, but Alaska couldn't help but think how cool it was.

She woke up the next morning to Stiles turning on her light and loudly yelling at her to get up. In response, she threw her pillow at him. She forced herself to leave the comfort of her bed, getting ready for the day. She stared at herself in the mirror as she fixed her hair and brushed her teeth. She took a deep breath, repeating it in her head that she would be safe, that this was a new start. She wouldn't let anything get in the way of her living her life.

She made her way outside where Stiles was waiting in his jeep. She climbed in, offering him a small smile before he took off. Stiles glanced at her before looking back at the road. "Are you nervous?"

Alaska nodded. "Well, I'm the new girl in school. I'm sure word has gotten around about my father. It is a small town after all."

He pulled into the parking lot, parking his car and turning off the ignition. He turned his head to look at her. "Hey, if anyone says anything to you, you tell one of us. It will stop before they even have a chance to start." He exited the car and Alaska followed suit. He led her to the office, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder before leaving her.

"Your name?" The woman at the front desk asked.

"Uh, Alaska Waldrop, I'm new."

The woman glanced at her before turning and grabbing a few papers. "Your schedule, locker, and locker combination." Alaska took the papers, glancing over them. "A student will be here in a moment to show you around." Alaska nodded and took a seat.

Not a few minutes later, Liam walked through the door. Alaska looked up and a smile bloomed on her face. "Ready?" Liam asked and Alaska nodded before following him. "How are you?" Liam asked as they headed for her locker.

"I'm okay, actually." Alaska breathed, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. "Obviously I'm going to relive everything that happened to me for a long time, but I think knowing that he was caught and that he's been sent away is making me handle this all a lot better."

Liam stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Good. That's good."

Liam showed her her locker and then where everything else in the school was before they finally came to a stop in front of her first class. Alaska looked at him. "I was hoping you would know a good place to eat around here."

Liam nodded. "Yeah, there's this diner that I really like―︎"

"So, I'll meet you there after school?" Alaska interrupted.

Liam's eyes widened in surprise. "Uh, I mean, y-yeah sure."

Alaska smiled. "Good. It's a date." Before he could respond, Alaska entered the classroom.

Liam stood there for a moment, dumbfounded. He looked at Alaska as she was introduced by the teacher before a small smile fell on his lips. "A date," he mumbled before turning and walking to his own class, the smile never leaving his face.
