CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE:
❝︎Head Over Heels❞︎

ALASKA WALKED INTO THE SCHOOL, IMMEDIATELY HEADING FOR HER LOCKER AND GRABBING THE BOOKS THAT SHE NEEDED FOR HER FIRST FEW CLASSES. She sighed as she glanced at herself in the small mirror of her locker, running a hand through her messy curls before pausing when she saw Liam's face appear in the mirror behind her shoulder. She turned, giving him a small smile before taking a step back and closing her locker.

"How did watching movies with Stiles all weekend go?" Liam asked as they began walking, their hands interlaced.

"It was actually quite fun." Alaska admitted with a smile. "I have a lot of movies to watch according to him. We're actually supposed to watch one tonight."

"Oh? And what are you watching?"

"Well, he's picked two and is letting me chose one. The options were The Shining and Back to the Future. I haven't decided which one I want to watch yet, besides I don't have to decide until tonight so it gives me time to think." She glanced at Liam before a sigh fell from her lips. "Liam, we need to talk."

Liam paused, eyes widening slightly in fear. "Oh, I don't like the sound of that."

Alaska chuckled, shaking her head. "It's nothing bad, I promise. I just have to ask you something." Liam nodded for her to continue. "What are we? I mean we hold hands, we kiss, we're always around each other, but I don't know what exactly we are."

Liam frowned slightly. "Well, what do you want us to be?"

"I want us to be a couple, going out on dates, having fun. . . I want you to be my boyfriend, but only if that's what you want."

Liam couldn't help a smile that pulled on his face. "I would love nothing more, but only if you want to be my girlfriend."

Alaska smiled, repeating his words. "I would love nothing more."

"Good. Then it's official, I'm all yours. I have been since we met."

Alaska felt warmth rush to her cheeks and she tried to keep herself from smiling to widely, but she couldn't help it. Her heart felt so full, and she was loving every minute of this. Being here with him, the guy that she likes a lot―︎loves, even. Wait, did she just admit that to herself? Immediately, joy was replaced with panic. Liam watched as her face drastically changed, a frown immedialy coating his lips.

     "Alie, is everything alright?"

Alaska nodded. "Mhm, yeah. I just, uh, I need to go to the bathroom. I'll see you in class." Quickly, she let go of his hand and walked in the other direction, trying not to run. She pushed her way into the bathroom, placing her hands against the sink as she took a deep breath. She felt the panic crawl up her throat, wrapping around it like a rope and choking her. She placed a hand on her chest, forcing herself to take slow breaths, trying to calm down.

The thought of loving someone had never been so terrifying to her before, not until she actually experienced. She was scared of putting her whole heart in to something only for it to be tormented and crushed by the other person. She knew that Liam would never do that to her, but her mind liked to play tricks, it liked to twist reality and give her a false belief of constant despair and heartache.

Alaska had never dated before, but she has loved. She loved her mother, she had watched her with admiration and had always looked up to her, and it when she died a piece of Alaska went with her. She had loved her father, he had been the best when growing up, but as soon as her mother passed it all went sideways. The drugs and alcohol had melted his brain and turned him into someone she hadn't recognized, resulting in him doing what he had done to her. Another part of her die that day. Alaska didn't think she had it in her to experience anything else devastating. She couldn't trust her heart anymore and had to listen to her head, but her head was fucked up and her heart was longing and desperate to be fed with love.

Since she's met Liam, since he save her, he had been healing her heart piece by piece. Alaska put up a good front, one that was unbreakable and solid. But she had buried the trauma deep inside her, choosing to have a fresh start and not relive in the past, but that didn't stop her mind from pulling the memories and forcing her to relive it. The door to the bathroom opened and Alaska turned her head, pausing when she saw Lydia enter.

"Alaska," Lydia greeted. She noticed the girls teary eyes and a frown pulled on her lips. "Hey, are you alright?"

Alaska nodded. "Yeah, yeah I'm alright. Just thinking."

Lydia nodded, walking towards her and leaning against the wall. "Want to talk about it?"

Alaska chewed on her bottom lip, eyes darting back and forth as she thought about it before she softly sighed. "I think. . ." She swallowed roughly, clearing her throat. "I think I'm in love with Liam."

Lydia smiled. "Alaska, that's great. But, you don't look too happy about it."

"It's too soon, isn't? I mean we just officially started dating before I ran in here, but we've been talking and hanging out and doing couple things for a few weeks now."

"But that's not what's truly bothering you, is it?"

Alaska glanced at her before sighing. "No, it's not. I'm just. . . I'm scared, Lydia. What if he doesn't feel the same way? I just don't want to get hurt again."

Lydia nodded in understanding. "Alaska, you have nothing to worry about. Liam adores you, he follows you around like a lost puppy, he talks about you all the time. The way he looks at you is enough for anyone with eyes to see that he's in love with you too."

     "You mean that?"

Lydia smiled. "I do. When you're ready, you should tell him, and I can guarantee you he'll feel the same."

"I thought you predicted death, not feelings." Alaska mumbled. Lydia chuckled.

"Well, it doesn't take a lot for someone to see how head over heels he is for you." The two exchanged a small smile before Lydia nodded towards the door. "Come on, we're going to be late for class." Alaska nodded, adjusting her bag on her shoulder before following Lydia out of the bathroom.
