CHAPTER FIVE:
❝︎I Think I'm Dead❞︎

HER HEAD WAS POUNDING. She didn't know where the hell it was that she was, she felt like she was fading in and out of existence, not knowing that that was exactly what she was doing. Alaska Waldrop was fading in and out of existence, because she was dying. And she didn't know that she was dying. She didn't know that the flashes she was seeing were that of her life, of the memories of what had happened, why she was there, why she could never seem to remember anything.

Alaska rushed away from Liam, her head spinning as she tried everything that she could to stay on balance. The pictures flashed behind her eyes, making her trip over herself every few seconds as her vision became blind for the few seconds that the flashes appeared. She could feel her veins flood with fear, her heart slamming in her chest because she didn't understand what she was witnessing. She didn't know what it was that was happening to her, and she didn't know how to stop it from happening.

Tears filled the girl's eyes as she stumbled along the streets. She looked like a drunk from New York that had just left the pub at three a.m. and was practically begging to get hit by a vehicle. And yet, not a single person seemed to even glance her way. No one stopped their cars or rolled down their windows to ask if she was alright. No one even bothered to give her funny looks and chuckle at the fact that she was embarrassing herself, because people fed off of others humiliation. Because people were cruel like that, she just didn't think the people of Beacon Hills were like that.

She made her way down an alley, the flashes still dancing behind her eyes. She was practically blind at this point. Her hand reached out, slamming against a brick wall that she hadn't expected to be so close. If she had stepped any closer she would've slammed her face right into the brick, and having a bloody nose within the first week of being in her new town was not something that would be looked upon highly by the doctors and officers of the town. None of which she had met, and one of which has sped by her as if she weren't even there.

"Stop it." She whispered, her voice cracking as she pressed harder and harder as if that would stop the pain. Her back pressed against the wall, her breathing heavy, her heart pounding. Why wouldn't they stop? The flashes of a life that she couldn't even see. She didn't understand the warning that was being given to her, not knowing the start of the timer that had been placed upon her. The sand in the hour glass was quickly falling, drawing her closer and closer to the finish line without her knowing it.

Alaska pressed her back against the red brick wall, carefully sliding down it until she was sitting on the hard ground. She curled into herself, the pain so unbearable that she could hardly stand. And then suddenly it stopped. Suddenly, all at once, the pain was gone. Vanishing as if it had never been there. The dark haired girl slowly removed her head from between her knees, her tear stained cheeks quickly being wiped clean with her hand. She looked around for a few moments, trying to figure out where it was that she had managed to stumble upon.

Even thought the pain was gone, Alaska found herself unable to move. Her arms wrapped around her knees as she stared blankly at the wall right in front of her. Her head was swarming with hundreds of question. She was confused about what the hell it was that had just happened. She was concerned for her well being. But more than anything she was terrified of what was happening to her, why it was happening to her. And most importantly, why her? Why did this have to happen to her of all people?  What did she ever do to deserve this pain, and confusion?

Liam Dunbar was concerned. He had saw the pain that had covered Alaska's features―︎the features in which he thought were gorgeous and perfect. He didn't even know this girl and yet his heart pounded in his chest every time that he saw her. His palms became sweaty. It was a feeling that he's never experienced before, and he liked the feeling a lot more than he would admit. And that's when he had watched her suddenly walk away from him, suddenly canceling their plans, he couldn't help but furrow his eyebrows in both confusion and in concern.

He had walked the opposite direction than her, deciding that it wasn't his place, and that he should probably give the teenager some space. But the farther that Liam walked away from Alaska, the more his worry grew. He liked to believe that Alaska was his new friend. She was kind enough, with a smile so bright it would make even the most heartless person smile. And she was new to town, and Liam didn't want her to feel like she was alone. He wouldn't let her believe it, because she wasn't alone. He was right there, and he wanted her to know that.

So that's why he had forced himself to stop in his tracks. He forced himself to stand there like a complete idiot and ponder over what it was that he should do. And then he thought about what Scott would do in his position, and suddenly he knew exactly what to do. Scott wouldn't leave someone alone that was hurting. And even if she pushed him away, or wouldn't tell him what was wrong, he forced himself to turn on his heel and quickly follow after her. And when he found her, he wasn't expecting her to be curled up against a building, placed in a random alleyway with such a blank look in his eyes that it even terrified him.

Liam carefully walked towards her before kneeling down beside of her and gently placing his hand on her shoulder. "Alaska? Are you alright?"

Alaska hadn't realized he had been there until he spoke. She turned her head to look at him, her eyes meeting his before she shook her head. She swallowed thickly as she looked at the boy she had practically ditched, before she opened her mouth to speak. And her voice came out a lot softer than expected. "Liam, I think. . . I think I'm dead."
