CHAPTER NINETEEN:
❝︎Meeting The Parents❞︎

ALASKA WAS NERVOUS. She was extremely nervous. She and Liam weren't even dating yet, but she was already meeting his parents. What if they didn't like her? What if they had heard what had happened and tried to ask her about it? She wasn't sure she was ready to relive that trauma. She was wearing a flowy yellow top with blue jeans and white Nike's. She stood in front of his front door, hand hovering in front of it as she hesitated to knock. She realized this could go so many ways, and she wasn't sure if she was going to like the outcome. Taking a deep breath, she knocked three times before standing there patiently.

The door opened to reveal Liam and she tried not to let out a breath of relief. Liam smiled at her and she smiled back before he led her into the home. "You have a beautiful house." Alaska said, glancing around the place.

"You're nervous, aren't you?" Liam asked.

"Very." Alaska mumbled.

Liam smiled in amusement. "You have nothing to be worried about. My parents already love you, they just wanted to put a face to the name."

Alaska raised a brow. "Oh, so you talk about me?"

Liam's face flushed as he began stuttering. "I―︎well, y-yeah, but I―︎well, you know, I talk about you some."

"That's cute when you do that." Alaska said, a smile on her lips.

"Do what. . .?"

"Get embarrassed. Your face turns red and you begin stuttering. It's cute."

"Liam? Is she here?" A woman's voice called before she walked around the corner. Liam was almost identical to his mother. Same light brown hair, same beautiful blue eyes. The woman was beautiful. She smiled brightly when she noticed Alaska. "You must be Alaska." She walked forwards, pulling her into a hug much to Alaska's surprise. She pulled back and glanced at her son before looking at her. "Liam's told us so much about you."

Alaska gave her a small smile. "I didn't know he talked about me that much."

"Oh, all the time." Mrs. Dunbar confirmed. "You can imagine my surprise when he told me you were only just friends." She wrapped an arm around Alaska's shoulder's, leading her into the dining room. Alaska looked over her shoulder at Liam who's face was red in embarrassment. Alaska smiled in amusement.

"Hopefully all good things?" Alaska asked.

Mrs. Dunbar laughed and nodded. "All very good things, sweetheart." She lowered her voice as she said, "I think he has a crush on you."

Alaska raised her eyebrows in mock surprise. "Oh, does he? I had no idea."

They all sat down at the table, lasagna being the food for the night. Alaska took a bite of it and hummed in delight. "This is delicious."

Mrs. Dunbar smiled. "Thank you, Alaska."

"So, Alaska, tell us how you and my son met." Mr. Greyer, Liam's step-father, said.

Alaska shared a look with Liam. She couldn't exactly tell them they had met while she was dying, so she decided to come up with a lie. "He and I met at school. I'm new around here, and he and I have several classes where we sit next to each other, and our friendship just blossomed from there."

Mr. Greyer nodded. "Well, he talks an awful lot about you."

"Dad," Liam groaned.

The man chuckled. "I'm sorry son, I have to tell it how it is." He looked back at Alaska. "Please, excuse my bluntness, but weren't you in the hospital a few weeks prior?"

Alaska felt the color drain from her face as panic swirled in her chest. Flashes from that night passed behind her eyes. She cleared her throat, taking a sip of her water. Liam had a look of pure horror on his face. "Uh, yeah, I was."

Mrs. Dunbar frowned. "Are you alright?"

Alaska forced a smile and nodded. "Y-yeah, yeah I'm alright. A little shaken up, but I'm healing." She looked at Liam's dad. "Liam told me you were a doctor. I assume that means you know what happened."

Mr. Greyer nodded. "I do. Where are you staying?"

The silent question was; I know your father was arrested and you have no other family, so who took you in? Alaska pushed a piece of hair behind her ear. "I'm staying with the Stilinski's."

"Noah's a good man."

Alaska smiled an actual smile. "He is. I appreciate everything he's done for me."

The conversation lasted a little longer and once they were done eating, Alaska had been given permission to go up to Liam's room―︎Mrs. Dunbar had emphasized to keep the door open and Liam had quickly ushered Alaska out of the room. They made it upstairs and Alaska took a seat at the end of Liam's bed.

"I'm sorry about them." Liam sighed, taking a seat beside her.

"It's alright. They were just curious." Alaska softly said. "Besides, I think they're just trying to make sure their son isn't hanging out with the wrong crowd." She gave him a small smile. "They seem really convinced that you have a crush on me. Which, they aren't wrong." Liam scratched the back of his neck. "You said whenever I was ready. Well, what if I'm ready now?"

Liam sat up a little straighter. "Don't let my parents make you feel pressured―︎"

"They're not." Alaska cut him off, shaking her head. "I've been thinking about it for a while now. Just as I told you that night, I like you a lot, Liam. And I think I'm finally in a position where I want to see where this goes."

"Yeah?"

Alaska smiled. "Yeah."

Liam searched her eyes for any doubt, and when he couldn't find any he leaned in closer. She followed suit and then their lips met. It was a soft kiss, a gentle one, but one that made both of their bodies explode with fireworks. Alaska couldn't help but smile as she kissed him. That was how she knew her life was finally starting over. She felt happy, truly happy.

 She felt happy, truly happy
