CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO:
❝︎Post Bail❞︎

SITTING IN HER HISTORY CLASS, ALASKA STARED AT HER TEXT BOOK WITH HER THOUGHTS ON ANYTHING BUT HISTORY. She thought about what Lydia said, and she couldn't help but wonder if she would ever be ready to come face to face with her feelings for Liam. He knows that she likes her, that's not what she has to worry about, but loving someone is a whole different ball game than just liking them. Love was the next step, and to Alaska it was an absolutely terrifying step.

She was thrown from her thoughts when the final bell rang. Immediately students began to scatter and grab their things, talking with their friends as they left the classroom. Alaska moved more slowly. Putting her books in her bag one at a time before grabbing her bag and hauling it over her shoulder. She walked out of the classroom, making it to her locker as she grabbed the books she would need for her homework that night before closing her locker and looking around.

She spotted Liam, a small smile forming on her face as he immediately walked up to her. He greeted her with a kiss and butterflies swarmed her stomach, her eyes fluttering closed as her veins sparked with fireworks. She pulled away and her heart soared at the adoration in his eyes. he grabbed her hand, interlacing their fingers as they walked through the halls.

"What are your plans for today?" Liam hummed.

Alaska swung their hands back and forth, shrugging. "Nothing, really. Go home, do homework, watch a movie with Stiles tonight. What about you?"

     "The same."

Alaska rose a brow. "You're going to watch a movie with Stiles tonight?"

Liam sighed. "Minus that part." Alaska chuckled. "I was thinking this weekend, we go down to the theater and you and I watch a movie together, seeing as you haven't seen any."

Alaska smiled. "Liam, are you asking me out on a date?"

"I am," Liam said confidently. "Plus, I want to spend time with you outside of school. I mean, not that we don't spend time together, but I'm busy with lacrosse and you're busy. . . doing whatever it is you do when you get back home. I just want to take advantage of this moment of peace before some other thing starts trying to kill us again."

Alaska pursed her lips. "Yeah, you know, I could've done without that last part."

"Yeah, I regretted it as soon as I said it."

Alaska laughed. They walked outside and Alaska spotted Stiles standing by his jeep talking to Scott, Malia, and Lydia. The couple made their way over to them, causing the group to turn their heads. "Hey, guys." Alaska greeted. She furrowed her brows, noticing the slightly worried looks on all of their faces. "What's wrong?" She watched as Stiles and Scott exchanged and look and immediately she grew worried. She looked at Stiles. "Stiles, what is it?"

Stiles ran a hand through his hair, a sigh leaving his lips. "It's your dad."

All the color drained from her face. She swallowed, licking her lips. "Um-uh, what about him?"

"He's trying to post bail." Stiles said.

Immediately tears pooled in her eyes. "W-what? N-no, he can't do that. They-they said no bail, that-that he would have life."

"Well, because you lived, he's trying to plead false accusation."

"What?" Alaska whispered, her voice cracking. "Can't your father do something?"

"We're about to go to the station now." Stiles told her.

     Alaska nodded. "O-okay."

"Come on." Stiles nodded, getting into his jeep.

"I'll see you later," Alaska whispered to Liam who nodded, squeezing her hand in reassurance before letting go. He watched as Alaska climbed into the passenger side of Stiles' jeep and the two sped off.

"He's not really going to get out, is he?" Liam asked, looking at Scott as anger began to fill his veins.

"Honestly, I don't know." Scott sighed. "Nothing's going to happen to her, alright? I swear." Liam just looked at him and forced himself to nod, knowing that if that monster of a man got out of prison, his promise would quickly be broken.

Alaska and Stiles rode in silence. Alaska kept messing with her hands, her mind running at a thousand miles per hour. She wanted to pack her bags and run away. She wanted to get as far away from Beacon Hills as she possibly could, but if her father got out she had not a single doubt in her mind that he would find a way to locate her and kill her for good this time. Alaska shuddered at the thought. She couldn't believe this. Suddenly, she felt the fear transform into anger, radiating all over her body until she was physically shaking with it.

They pulled into the police station and Alaska had been gripping the seat belt so hard there were now two red lines running across her palms.  She climbed out of the car, rubbing at her now sore hands before following Stiles inside. She stood behind him as he asked the lady at the front desk to tell Noah they had arrived. In an instant, Noah walked out of his office, motioning for the two of them to enter. They did so without saying a word.

Noah closed the door and Stiles and Alaska stood there, watching as the older man ran a hand over his face. Alaska was the first to break the silence. "So, how bad is it?"

Noah glanced at her before leaning against his desk, crossing his arms over his chest. "Well, Alaska, it's certainly not good."

"Is he getting out or not?" Alaska clarified.

     "I don't know."

"Are they really entertaining the idea of letting him walk free?" Stiles asked with a scoff.

"No offense, but your justice system absolutely sucks." Alaska muttered. "What do I need to do?" Noah furrowed his brows. "I'm not letting him receive a get out of jail free card. So, what do I need to do? Testify in court?"

"I'm doing everything I can to keep you from having to do that." Noah sternly said. "I don't want you anywhere near that man."

"Well, if I have to see his face again to watch him be dragged back to his prison cell, then I will." Alaska clenched her jaw, forcing away her tears. "I will not let this man ruin my life, not when I've just started to live again." With that, she turned and walked out of the office.

" With that, she turned and walked out of the office
