For those who have the courage to survive, go on and live.
Library Pavilion was huge. And when we talk about huge, we're talking about giant- huge.
I stepped inside and ran my finger through the books and scrolls on the shelves. There were so many books! It looked like pure paradise! Especially for someone who reads a lot like me.
Regardless of the fact that I usually read short novels.
"I would live comfortably in here for the rest of my life and read books," I said.
Lan Xichen went to a table and put some books up there. A candle was burning on the table. We had come down to the place with the Forbidden Documents or whatever.
"You wouldn't like it if you really stayed," he laughed slightly. "Those who come here, not to the Forbidden section, but to the regular library, usually come to copy the rules as punishment."
"Rules?" I did and approached the table. "What rules?"
Lan Xichen sat on the floor and opened a book in front of him. "Those written on the Great Wall."
I felt cold sweat running on my back. "Great Wall? Which Great wall? I didn't see anything like that. If I did something wrong, I'm sorry..."
"You don't have to apologize Maiden Charlie," Lan Xichen motioned for me to sit across from him. "To my surprise you did not violate any rule. Maybe you did something when you talked to the junior disciplines, but let's keep it to ourselves. We do not have time to copy them. Plus my Uncle liked you. Usually he does not like people from the first moment. It may be the first time he has said something similar."
I sat down too. I wondered if there was a probability that we both liked each other with the Uncle, because of the thing with the beard and chin. We had the same habit. Was it... as they say? Karma?
"Thanks. I just don't see very well around me. I have myopia. Lan Shizui and Jingyi know this. I told them."
"Myopia?" Xichen raised his head from the book in his hands. "What is this?"
"A disease of the eyes" I explained and I opened a book. "It's that you can not see clear because..." I looked at the book again.
I quickly opened and closed my eyes. My eyebrows furrowed.
Why was it all written in Chinese?
"What happened, Maiden Charlie? You look a little pale," Xichen commented.
Bollocks. I raised my head and looked at him. "It's all in Chinese."
Lan Xichen nodded in agreement. "Of course it will be. All documents and books in Library.... just a moment" he stopped short in his speech. "Do you not know how to read, Maiden Charlie?"
I grabbed my head with both hands and looked at the text in front of me. I tried to concentrate. I looked at the text as if I intended to burn it.
Nothing. The letters continued to be Chinese.
And I continued to not be able to read them.
How was this possible? When I came here I could speak Chinese, but I could not read?
An idea hit me in the head. I looked at Lan Xichen.
"Is there any paper and pen?"
"Pen?" he did.
"Yes. Err, ink. Something I can write with, anyway."
Lan Xichen, as if realizing the importance of the situation, quickly grabbed a brush, a jar of black liquid and a piece of paper and placed them in front of me.
