you woke up with Lizzie asleep on your shoulder, you must have drifted off while comforting her. you looked around and saw the sunrise peaking through the blinds, looks like you both had been asleep for some time. you didn't mind, it seemed like Lizzie really needed it.
you looked down at her and saw her black eye and busted lip. you couldn't believe someone would hurt her, she was so sweet and delicate and the fact that Robbie had made her believe it wasn't a big deal made your blood boil. you let out a deep sigh to try and calm yourself down, but that had caused lizzie to stir next to you indicating that she was waking up.
she yawned and stretched, and smiled when she saw you
"hi" you whispered
"you stayed" she smiled softly, expecting to wake up and be alone
"of course, but i'll go if you want me to" you said as you began to get up from the couch
"no, you can stay. i want you to stay" she replied, grabbing your wrist lightly stopping you from leaving her side
"oh, well i'm glad" you chucked lightly while blushing, sitting close to her once again
you heard footsteps from behind you and saw lizzies friend, Aubrey coming down the hallway yawning
"sup love birds" she said as she walked towards the kitchen
lizzie just laughed and shook her head at Aubreys bluntness, looking up at you and smiling
"you two got any plans today?" Aubrey asked as she stirred her coffee, raising an eyebrow as she realised how close the two of you were
lizzie scooted somewhat away from you, but you shrugged it off
"uh probably just going to go back home" lizzie said, biting her lip out of nerves
"excuse me?" you replied, completely dumbfounded on how she thought it was a good idea to go back
"well Aubrey has to go to Arizona for a movie, i can't stay here" lizzie tried to explain
"i can always leave a key" Aubrey shrugged as she sat next to Lizzie
"you can't be alone, you can stay at my place" you said quickly, heart beating out of your chest you're surprised none of them commented on it
"oh i couldnt-" lizzie tried to refuse but Aubrey quickly shushed her,
"sounds like a great idea!" Aubrey winked at you, you didn't know what she was thinking but you smiled back
you drove back to your house, lizzie sitting in your passenger seat now staring out the window tapping her foot to the beat of the radio
you wanted to start conversation but what could you possibly talk about? she was your fucked up cousins wife and you were driving her to your house.
you definitely hadn't thought this all the way through but before you could turn back you had already pulled up to your house. it was small but nice, it had a nice little garden and good structure, you thought it fit you perfectly
you and Lizzie got out, you helped her with her bags there weren't a lot so you didn't know what she'd do after she had used all her stuff up but that was a problem for future you
you realised you hadn't actually known Lizzie for that long so she hadn't seen inside your house before, it was much smaller in comparison to her house but it was welcoming. you sighed as you finally got through the door, home sweet home
"it's nice" lizzie said as she looked around the entry way, pens and papers everywhere you looked, you couldn't help but get embarrassed at the clutter
"sorry about all this" you gestured all around you, almost like you were apologising for the reason she had to come to the house
"oh no, i like it" she smiled as she walked over to the small green faux leather couch, it matched the plethora of plants you had scattered around the room, some even taller than you
she sat down and smiled at you awkwardly, there was tension like electricity in the air and not the good kind. like the kind where you know you're about to die from a lightening strike
"are you okay?" you asked quickly, wanting to break the silence
"i'm okay" she smiled again, but you weren't convinced
"are you sure because what happened was kinda heavy and.." you trailed off as you sat next to her
"y/n" she warned with a playful glare, making you bow your head and stop pushing, "i'm okay i promise, tensions just high right now"
"okay, do you want anything?" you asked softly
"i want things to go back to normal but that won't happen until i wait for Robbie to blow off some more steam" lizzie shrugged
it was almost like she didn't understand the weight of the situation, or she did but just didn't want to think about it. she was acting like she hadn't just sobbed in your arms the night before
you stopped staring at her when your phone rang, the caller id made you smile
"i have to take this, i'll be right back" you pointed to your phone and lizzie nodded in reply so you got up and went into the other room
"Aria!" you smiled as you spoke
"took you long enough to answer, you haven't spoken to me in ages! haven't even answered my thousands of texts" she scolded you playfully
"i know, i know. i'm been super busy i'm sorry"
"with what? your girlfriend?" Aria teased, but you didn't find it funny right now
"shut up Aria, at least i have other friends" you shot back
oops
"maybe your girlfriend could be my friend, let me meet her!" Aria demanded, completely unfazed
"no i don't think that's a good idea, listen i have to get back to her in my living room but i'll call you later i promise!" you swore
"she's at your house?!" she yelled from the other line but you hung up before the list of questions came out
you walked back into the living room and saw lizzie walking around it looking at all your nic-nacs, you had a problem with keeping every little thing you find and are gifted
"who was that?" lizzie asked, looking back at you
"just my close friend, she wanted to hang out but i told her no so don't worry"
"whyd you say no? you should be able to go out with your other friends. don't let my situation hold you back" lizzie turned around fully now with her hands on her hips, cocking her head to the side
"it's not that, she actually wanted to.. meet you" you replied, rubbing the back of your neck nervously
you've never introduce Lizzie or even talked about her a lot to your friends, keeping her to yourself selfishly but that was all gonna change pretty quickly
