your rent was due, you had enough for this months from the money you got selling short stories to the newspaper but you knew you wouldn't be able to pay it at the end of next month. you had think and you had to think quick

you decided to call someone who had a lot of connections, to a lot of people.. mostly weird.

the phone rung three times before you got a happy "hello!" on the other end

"Aria! i need your help, i won't be able to pay next months rent so i need another source of income. any of your friends need an employee?" you asked hopefully but the silence on the other end of the line was deafening, you already knew the answer

"never mind" you sighed with disappointment

"i'm sorry y/n but this is legit the worst time to look for a job, everyone's already hired a bunch of teenagers since it's winter break soon" Aria explained

god you need to start getting your timing correct on things

"okay okay, i-ill work it out don't worry" you quickly stuttered

after the phone call you scrambled to your laptop, searching up available jobs in your area but to no prevail. that's when you remembered you had another friend who may be able to help you

you picked up your phone and clicked the contact, hitting the call and waiting as it rung 2 times

"hey lizzie, i need your help" that was all you had to say really, and lizzie was at your beg and call

Lizzie came over after you explained the situation, you hadn't seen her in a couple days and it was lonely but neither of you wanted to admit it

you both sat on your bed, cross legged brainstorming

"i've got it !" lizzie exclaimed

"what?" you asked, hopefully

"i'm friends with the co-owner of this publishing company, i could call! i think they're short staffed" lizzie began to tell you

she called quickly after, having a short but vigorous conversation with whoever was on the other end. she smiled at the end of it and you took it as a good sign

"they want you to go in with your resume tomorrow afternoon and have an interview with the main owner" lizzie said happily  as soon as the line went silent

Lizzie was more excited than you, it was nice seeing how happy she was for you even though the job was definitely not set in stone

she stayed for a little while after, just talking and you asked her how everything was going. she seemed happier, more sure of herself and she thought the same about you

the next afternoon you made your way to where the company building was situated, it was a long-ish drive but you enjoyed yourself as you listened to your playlists and practiced what you were going to say
