lizzie walked to your house so she could prepare, she repeated in her head the exact words she was going to say. she felt bad but she was also frustrated at how mad you were. she never got a chance to truly explain herself, and she intended to when she saw you next

she made her way up your street, warming her hands up by blowing hot air into them. it was chilly but she knew that you always kept your house warm as you got cold easily.

she cleared her throat when she got to your door, wiping her shoes on the doormat. she knocked twice and rang the doorbell once, she heard it ring through the house and could hear the faint sound of footsteps leading to the door.

her heart got stuck in her throat when you opened the door, you both breathed out at the same time the foggy clouds mixing together

"come in" you said faintly, you seemed to had calmed down

"thank you" lizzie replied with a small smile which you reciprocated

you both walked into the lounge room in silence, stealing glances every now and then. both wishing you could read each other's minds

you had spent a lot of time thinking about what Aria had said, but also you had to listen to your head. although it was wrong a lot of the time, you needed to trust it.. a small amount.

"say what you want to say" you started the conversation first

"i'm not good at this, i'm afraid because it's all so new. everything is out in the open, but i wouldn't have it any other way. i'm still with Robbie, but i'm going to start talking to lawyers. do you have anything you want to say?" lizzie said in one breath

"i'm sorry for blaming you so much, i know it's hard to leave a relationship like that.. i couldn't imagine what it's like when you're so well known. telling the press about everything really showed how much you care but.." you weren't angry anymore, you were trying to be understanding

"you want to be friends.." lizzie mumbled

"yes, i do. i think it's best at the moment, i'm sorry"

"i do miss being your friend, far less crying" lizzie chuckled while wiping a tear threatening to fall from her eye

"it will be okay" you smiled, engulfing her in a hug. breathing in her sweet scent of vanilla and cinnamon

you stayed like that for a minute or two, although it didn't feel like time was actually passing. you really missed having lizzie as a friend, everything was so carefree

"the press definitely have the wrong idea then" lizzie said, muffled by your shirt, "they all think we're dating, sorry"

"let them" you said simply when you pulled away from the hug, it was too much work trying to explain every little part of this relat- friendship

after the hug was over an awkwardness settled in the air around you, you both now realised that you were actually in each others presence and there was no arguing to be had

lizzie opened her mouth to say something, add anything to the quietness  but was silenced once more by her phone ringing. she quickly rummaged around in her coat and pulled it out. rolling her eyes playfully at the contact name that lit up her screen. you didn't want to snoop so you got up from the couch and began to walk to another room. lizzie saw this and grabbed your shirt, tugging you back down on the couch lightly while holding the phone to her ear with the other hand

"you can stay, i don't have anything to hide" lizzie said before bringing her attention to the person on the other end of the line

"i'm talking to y/n, yes they let me in and no we didn't physically fight. are you two serious?" as lizzie rambled you could see the slight smile on her lips as she talked about making up with you, she talked about you as if you weren't listening

as lizzie hung up, she sighed jokingly and acted like the phone call had made her tired. you tried to hide the blush that had creeped on your face during the phone call, i mean what did she expect? talking about you all positively like that with you in the room, knowing you could hear

"you're still wearing your coat and shoes, weren't planning on staying too long?" you pointed to her attire, her clothes even too warm for the weather outside

"if i'm being completely honest, i didn't think you would actually let me in. i wore this in case i needed to have this conversation with a door between us" lizzie shrugged, "i didn't think you would forgive me, but if i'm being honest again i don't really know what i did"

"i wasn't going to forgive you, i'm stubborn like that" you started to reply, lizzie nodded obnoxiously which made you smile "but i had someone talk some sense into me"

"let me guess, starts with an A and ends in a ria" lizzie asked, cocking her head to the side jokingly

"that is correct, although i hurt their feelings by letting my feelings get in the way and now they're mad at me" you said quietly, lizzie rubbed your arm soothingly making you heat up and leave goosebumps

"i'm sorry that this whole thing with Robbie caused all this" lizzie apologised once again, you just shook your head in reply

"no need to apologise, nothing that man does is your fault. he's just always going to be that way"

lizzie hugged you again, quickly this time like she was nervous that she couldn't as the time had passed

"what was that for?" you asked confused

"i just missed being like this, i miss when we used to drink wine and just.. talk" lizzie explained

i walked into Lizzie's living room with two glasses of wine in hand, it had been a few weeks since you had started sneaking around with each other but don't get the wrong idea. lizzie only thought of you as a friend so that's all you did, was be a friend to her

"be careful, you'll spill them!" lizzie laughed as she quickly walked up to you after changing into some lounging clothes, "you're so accident prone"

"hey no fair, i spill something once while cooking with you!"

"twice ! and it was the meal and the drinks" lizzie laughed as she recalled the memory

"all i'm saying is the pizza we ordered was just as good as what we were supposed to have, maybe even better" you shrugged, making a joke while putting the glasses down on the coffee table

lizzie bumped your arm playfully, "hey! i am a wonderful cook, thank you very much"

"yes i know i'm only jo-" you turned towards her, only now realising how close the two of you now were

your breath quickly got sucked back in, catching in your throat. you thought you could see lizzie doing the same but you quickly waved it off as confusion

you both cleared your throats at the same time before sitting on the couch behind you, lizzie turning on the tv to fill the silence and tension that was now there

"Y/n? hello?" lizzie asked you, waving her hand slowly in front of your face pulling you back into reality

"oh i'm fine, i'm good" you said awkwardly, trying to swallow that lump in your throat

"you said Aria was mad at you," lizzie changed the subject, "let me help you"
