When we walk past the fenced entrance of the park, I see that Willy, Ben, and Toby are already there.
Willy had invited me during lunch and honestly I kind of said yes at first because I thought Alex would argue with me.
Then I wanted to go because I wanted to see what Alex does when he's in his 'element.'
At the skate park with his friends.
It's not the first time I've been here, but it is the first time I've seen this place at night.
No one is around but them, it's kind of peaceful.
One of the lamppost flickers repeatedly right above us.
When I was eight the light from the lamppost across the street from my house had fallen.
It was the middle of the night and all I had heard was a loud shattering crash.
The next day my dad told me what had happened and I wondered what would've happened if someone was standing under it.
Would it kill you?
Now thinking back it sounds sort of morbid but I really did wonder that.
"Hey pompoms." Willy says, taking off the hood from his head.
He shakes his dreads out, looking down at the ground before looking back up at me.
I wave at him, feeling as if I'm intruding.
These are Alex's friends not mine, and come to think of it Alex and I aren't even friends.
Why am I here again?
Ben walks over to me, his board in his right hand.
His dark hair is tucked into a beanie, and I notice his glasses are half a second from falling off of his nose.
"Have you ever ridden a skateboard before?" He asks and I nod.
"But it was years ago." I say and honestly we only did it twice.
It was in front of Alex's house and he pulled me across the street. I didn't even have to do anything but stand on the board.
Ben places the board down on the ground.
"Give it a try." He says and before I even lift a foot off the ground Alex decides to speak up.
"She's not getting on a board today." He says looking over at me.
I roll my eyes, crossing my arms across my chest.
"Says who?" I ask lifting an eyebrow in defiance.
He did not let me come all the way out here just to sit on a fucking picnic table.
He points to himself, "Me, I said so."
"Well I want to try." I say and he shakes his head. His blond hair resting against his forehead.
