"I'll miss you!" You hugged her tightly, before parting, blinking a lot to make it seem like you were trying to hold back tears.
"I'll miss you too!" She wailed, tears flowing out her eyes, as she moved to bid goodbye to other children, to the rest of her family.
She considered you family, it was sort of funny. You did your best not to think of them as that. They weren't that. If you thought that, you wouldn't feel so bad when you had to left everyone else go.
But from today onwards, you wouldn't have to do that.
From today onwards, you could love everyone without a heavy heart.
Once she had left, you went to the library. It was your comfort spot. The smell of old books, much older than you, and-
"What are you doing here?"
You turned your head to see Ray sat on a chair, leaning against the table with a book in hand, as usual. "I'm always here," you answered, walking over to the bookshelves.
"Not this late," Ray countered, watching as you took out a book, without looking at the cover, like you placed it there before to pick it up.
"Ah, well, a lot's happening today." You placed the book down in front of you, sliding a chair over, to sit opposite to him. Ray stopped leaning over on the table and turned around in his seat to face you.
"Connie leaving? Kids get adopted from here all the time. You've never come here the other times."
"Ah, well I've been putting off reading for some time. Should probably get all the information I can, right?" Ray narrowed his eyes at you, choosing not to answer. You looked up from your book. "You got nothing to say?"
Ray huffed, resting his hand on the table. "Since when have you known huh?"
"You don't seem too surprised," you smiled, not trying to hide the fact that there was no kindness behind your smile. "So I'm sure you know how long I've known."
"Why didn't you tell me before?" Ray asked. "I mean, if you knew that I knew too. Would've been nice to have someone else, no?"
"It might've messed something up," you said, leaning back in your chair. "Today feels okay. They're finding out today too, after all."
"Hm? What makes you think that?"
"I saw Connie left her bunny," you closed your eyes, feeling relaxed enough to sleep right at this moment. You'd have a good night tonight, that's for sure. "Emma and Norman will want to return it."
"Of course," Ray grinned.
You both fell silent and went back to reading.
She's smarter than I thought.
You frowned. You wouldn't be able to tell him about you're knowledge of the future. This was probably the only truth you'd ever say in this life.
