You sighed once Emma gave everyone the sign to stop. You'd finally get a chance to take a break, after the non stop running. Admittedly, your stamina wasn't the best, since you'd spent most of your time in the library, trying to gain all the information you could, no matter how limited, to live as long as you had, and hopefully live out here as well.
"Hey Y/N." You turned around, stopping yourself from going under the big tree everyone was preparing to eat under. "How much do you know about survival in the outside world?"
"Well, important things for the wildness... our number one priority should be water, I'm sure you know that. We'd die if we go three days without it. That's doesn't mean food isn't important either. We need enough nutrients if we're all going to keep running, and our energy levels have got to be up considering the situation. Plants shouldn't be too hard to get, but we don't know much about the plants out here today. And meat would help the younger kids out especially, we need them to grow strong... But none of us know how to hunt so that's an issue."
You paused.
"Sorry for rambling, Ray, I'm sure you already know all of that."
"No, it's helpful, really, it is," Ray insisted. "You're smarter than you give yourself credit for. You've spent more time in that library than I have."
"No way," you scoffed, knowing that he was right. You'd been a promising child since you'd been able to read and write at early ages. Of course, it was all past memory, reading was basically like breathing for you, you just knew how to do it. Talking took some time, because you had to get used to your little person abilities to speak.
"I trust you know as much as Emma and I do. Probably even more," Ray said, serious. "You're going to be a big help to us."
"Of course I am," you agreed, looking up at him. "I don't want you and Emma to overwork yourselves like you always do, so I'll pull as much weight as I can." You glanced over at Emma, who kept lookout. "Both of you should take care of yourselves, get some rest, alright?"
Ray pat your shoulder. "Alright."
