LUCY'S P.O.V
I had spent the past half an hour of Lettering class making small talk with John and Mike mainly about art, although most of the time it was just John and Mike doing the talking whilst messing around with their friends who sat behind us, making paper aeroplanes. Meanwhile, I tried finishing off some of my work from last lesson, but it seemed almost impossible when I remembered I was sat next to John Lennon! I still caught Cyn looking at us time to time, I actually felt quite bad sitting next to John because it's like Cynthia had already claimed him as hers, despite John barely acknowledging her existence.
"Michael Arnold?" a familiar voice said. I looked over my left shoulder to see a tall, thin woman dressed all in purple stood in the door way to our class room, it was Miss Peck, the school's secretary.
Mike recognised her voice and stood up to look at her. "Mr Arnold. Could you step this way please? We have an important meeting, sorry to bother you and your class Mr Blackburn, my sincerest apologies, it seems Mr Arnold has been up to no good again!" Miss Peck explained. The class all stared at Mike as he left the class room, everyone started whispering to each other behind their hands and giggling.
"What has he done?" I whispered to John, confused.
"He let a stink bomb off in the teachers office! Bloody hilarious! Someone must've saw him do it n snitched on him. Poor fella!" he explained, trying to hold back laughter. I honestly didn't find this very funny at all, in fact I thought it was quite horrid of Mike to do this, but I giggled a little just so I wasn't the only one with a straight face in class... and so John would like me more.John had the loveliest smile that stretched right across his face, and I couldn't help but feel a sudden attraction to him. He was much taller than me and his hair stood up high on his head, filled with grease just like Paul's. I'd never really felt any attraction towards teddy boys until now.
"So, Miss Henderson. Tell me about yourself." John paused, "What's your hopes, dreams and ambitions? I'm curious.." John turned to face me, we shared several seconds of eye contact until I smirked and answered his question.
"Well, firstly, you can call me Lucy. I'm not to sure, I suppose I would love to become a nurse, but I would also like to write my own book, I'm very passionate about drawing and painting too." I said, looking at the ceiling, as if it was at a sky with my entire future painted out on it. "Yourself?" I asked.
"Well, Lucy... a paperback writer, eh? What genre do you write? Well, I'm not too sure either, like, I love to draw and paint things... maybe I could become a painter? Nah, they're pretty lame, I wanna be famous! Dunno what for though, but I'll do it. You watch me, I'll be as famous as Elvis one day!" he said, then proceeded to do an Elvis impression.
"Oh John, you really want to be famous? Like Elvis?" I chuckled. He nodded vigorously and laughed too. "I like to write short stories and poems. I liked your poem a lot, makes mine look terrible."
"You really liked my poem, aye. I write lots yanno." his tone suddenly became much softer and quieter. We shared a moment of silence before he carried on "Me mam, Julia, from the poem... she left me yanno. I was only tiny, n she just left me... n then she just died, just as I was gettin to know her" he muttered, voice cracking.
"Oh, John.. I..." I didn't know what to say, so I just patted his arm. I've never lost a parent or any family member that is close to me before, I could never imagine something so horrible happening. I felt quite awkward, I had only just got to know John and he was already pouring his heart out too me."It's okay Lucy. I'm so sorry. What do you write your stories and poems about? Please tell me, I am interested now."
We proceeded to have a fairly lengthy conversation about what we write about, all I wanted was to change subject as soon as possible and I am glad he asked me this because I saw my opportunity to lighten the conversation and took it. I could see he got quite emotional about his mother. I actually discovered he most enjoyed writing poems about love! Which surprised me because (A) he didn't seem the romantic sort and (B) I cannot remember the last time he had a proper girlfriend. I also mentioned how I enjoy writing short stories about fantastical places and poems about love too and he seemed to find that very fascinating! It quickly came to the end of the lesson, which admittedly I was very sad about. I enjoyed talking to John, we had a lot more in common than what I expected! Before I had the chance to properly pack my bag and leave class, he pulled me into the corner of the room and held me by my waist.
"Lucy, I was wonderin if you wanted to come get a drink with me sometime? Like, there's this great little place down the road that does some great coffee... do you wa-"
"Yes, of course I would!" I exclaimed before he could even finish his sentence.
"Great, meet me at the Casbah at 6 o'clock!" he let go of my waist and started to walk away, still looking back at me, grinning.
"Sure! Don't forget to bring your poems! I want to see these compositions of yours that you tell me about!" I laughed.
When he was completely out of my sight. It hit me. I had just spent my entire lesson with John Lennon. John Lennon! I completely hated him that morning, I believed he was a rude stupid boy with a terrible, immature sense of humour. Then all of a sudden we were like soul mates! No wonder Cyn is so into him, he can melt your heart without even trying. I had to tell Paul everything!PAUL'S P.O.V
I was sat on the wall smoking a cigarette, waiting in the same place I promised to meet Lucy earlier. I couldn't wait to see her! I looked down the corridor to see her running towards me, so I quickly put out my ciggie and stood up to greet her- but also to catch her. She was running at such a pace I thought she would never stop! Her brunette hair flowed in the wind and her cheeks were flushed, yet she still looked beautiful.
"Lucy!" I yelled, as she ran into my arms. Whenever I touched her I felt like my heart transformed into a butterfly, she truly was a phenomenon of Mother Natures creations!
"Oh Paulie! You will never guess what just happened!" she panted. We both sat back down on the wall and she told me the entire story of what went on in her Lettering class with John Lennon. Everything from him returning her pen to the poem writing to the date they had later.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of John. It actually quite upset me to hear that Lucy had gotten a date with this boy; he sounds like no good and, well, she is meant to be mine.
I have liked Lucy for as long as I can remember and I know she doesn't feel the same way about me. I have tried so many times to forget about her and move on, but I just can't bring myself to do it. She is too much of a beautiful person, inside and out. I knew I never stood a chance with her, I would completely ruin our friendship if I said I had feelings for her.
So yes, I truly envied John Lennon for taking the girl I loved away from me.
