*Dear readers, I am awfully sorry about what I can only call a 'hiatus' in my writing. I have uploaded this chapter- that has been saved as a draft for roughly a year! I hope you enjoy it- I shall begin writing again as soon as possible. I am currently taking A-Levels, so find it hard to find time to write!*
JOHN'S P.O.V
I hadn't seen Lucy since the day I yelled at her when she revealed her ghastly haircut. It was out of order for me to do that, but quite frankly, it did look shit. Nonetheless, I miss her. I miss her a lot. I suppose I should have gone and checked up on her sooner after the incident, however my mind has been elsewhere. Time has passed quickly, I've found myself at band practice for hours on end almost every day, it's like an unhealthy obsession.
Currently, George and I are sat playing guitar whilst Pete practices the drums, in the music suite at college. Technically, we shouldn't even attend anymore (as we have graduated), but ever since The Beatles have become a more recognised band, we've been allowed to use the facilities.
George and I had been practicing the riff from the song 'Chains' by The Cookies until we heard a quiet knock on the old door of the music suite. My heart began pounding against my chest, hoping Lucy would be stood the other side.
"Come on in." George bellowed on my behalf before shooting me a concerned look. I pretended to be busy on my guitar as the door creaked open, anticipation filled the air.
"Is Lucy here?" inquired a soft-spoken voice. Instantly, I looked up- it wasn't Lucy, it was Cynthia. I sighed, feeling relieved I didn't have to explain myself just yet.
"Cynthia!" I exclaimed. She looked awfully shy, I felt bad. "Uhm, no, Lucy isn't here. Are you a'right, love?" I asked, genuinely concerned. Cynthia always seems to radiate an uneasy atmosphere when I am around, Lucy once told me it's because I come across as intimidating, so I tried my best to hearten her.
"I'm fine, I mean, I haven't seen Lucy in a while. She isn't at home, I thought she'd be with you." She explained, daring to make eye contact with me. Her glasses reflected the lights in the room and she must have noticed me squint at her as she suddenly grasped her glasses and hid them in her hands, discontinuing the eye contact.
"I haven't seen Lucy since, well... I am sure you know. She's probably just at the shops or something. Don't be embarrassed of yer glasses." I added, trying to avoid the subject of Lucy before this pleasant conversation turns into an interrogation. Cynthia smiled, we had previously discussed our vision in Lettering class, we used to chat a lot then, I missed that, she was a nice chick.
"Come in, Cyn. We haven't seen you in ages. Listen to what George and I have done." I commanded as she perched on a spare chair in the corner of the room. We began to strum our guitars, playing song after song. It was a lot of fun, we were all singing and laughing, even Cynthia. She was a surprisingly nice girl once you got her to come out of her shell and honestly quite attractive, too.
LUCY'S P.O.V
It was another day spent at Paul's house writing songs together behind his piano. I had the most wonderful few days, the music had been therapeutic and Paul treated me like a queen. We had actually managed to write about three songs together, finally finishing Eleanor Rigby, it was now a masterpiece!
Currently, I was sat going over the tune of a song Paul helped me write that we named 'Blackbird' on the piano whilst Paul made us both a tea. It was my favourite song that we composed so far, the lyrics were directed at me which made it extra special. We used words that Paul once told me 'take these broken wings and learn to fly', a phrase that I will never fail to remember.
I was in the middle of playing when suddenly I heard Paul join in, singing 'you were only waiting for this moment to be free' as he sat back next to me on the piano stool, placing the two cups of tea in front of us. In that moment, we were very close, I had stopped playing the piano and he stared into my eyes as I did so to his, I felt him breathe on my face, it was the most intimate moment I had ever shared with him. After a few moments, I shut my eyes and turned away, continuing to play the piano, it was so wrong. John was still out there, I had ignored him for days on end and he was my fiance! Reality finally dawned upon me.
The moment I finished playing the song on piano and making several adjustments to the notes, I quickly gulped my luke-warm tea and decided to head home and find John. Saying good bye to Paul became an awkward chore that I tried to avoid, eventually I gave him a quick hug and an air-kiss on the cheek.
"See you soon?!" He said as I walked out the front door. I simply replied 'yeah' and begun my journey home, I had a lot on my mind.
