" I was told I was dangerous ... so I asked why?
They said "Because you don't need anyone."
That's when I smiled." - Unknown.

"Soon bubba, soon it will be all over." She kissed the little boys' forehead, dried tear stains streaked on his innocent face.

Cass rubbed his face frustrated. He didn't understand how this could work when the very people who owned the strip club were people he grew up with. A crew he was fortunately pulled out of when he was sixteen. Something he didn't take for granted. The same crew that held a thing against him since he walked away, kept his head down and moved away. He hadn't been home apart from short visits in the decade he moved away to California. He felt suffocated sitting in such a place, the high end club was no joke, the family behind it even less so. Deep rich browns, red and gold, four poles dotted around the space with one in the middle, the centre stage. A bar running down the back wall, lit dimly with a glass wall behind the shelves of alcohol. The place screamed more gentle men's club, with all the customers in suits, the bouncers in black suits, the waitresses in expensive lace body suits and the waiters in slacks.

"Why the hell am I here again." He grumbled out pissed, turning to look at his partner.

Emilio looked up from his phone, that goofy smile still on his face, the smile that only made it's way to his face when he was thinking of, texting or on call with his wife. His softened eyes hardened agin, the smile dropping as he flexed his fingers putting the phone down. His gold wedding band glistening in the dimly lit room.

"Because you got specially asked to be here by the FBI and captain decided he needed a break from your ass after the last shit you pulled." He spoke mockingly, fluttering his eyelashes.

"I'm regretting saying I wouldn't do this shit without you." He mumbled flipping him the bird.

Emilio laughed at him before sobering up, "believe me I'd rather be home right now, Chi is probably getting into bed, and my girl is the only girl I want to be seeing in any state of naked."

He watched the longing look in his friend and partners face and felt a little sorry for dragging him along. The man was just married shy of four months still in the honeymoon period, although Cass genuinely believed that stage would be a forever thing with those two.

"Don't make me feel bad because your whipped." He said instead.

"I waited forever for her asshole, besides she's the one who pushed me to be here with you." He replied, eyes clouded in haunting as he probably remembered that night.

"I appreciate her for that dude believe me I do." He said thinking back to the lifeless Emilio he had seen that day two years ago.

Blood there had been so much all over him, all over her. The strongest man he'd ever seen broke that night crying in his mothers arms that Cass even tearing up prayed to God in years for to pull through. And when she did Emilio never left her side, therapy, rehab. He gave her his love, devotion, a family, then nine months ago a ring and four months ago his last name. The man hasn't been able to see past her since they were kids. And it made Cass often think of his own life.

"What you thinking about, drifting off there?" Knowing black eyes looked at him.

"Nothing much, just when the boys will get here." The lie rolled smoothly off his tongue.

Amy closed the door of his room that led into hers, tears ran down her face as she moved to the bathroom. She turned the tap on full pressure, placed a hand over her mouth to muffle the sobs that came out of her. It hurt her more to see the red handprint against the soft skin of his cheek than any of the beatings she had taken at the hands of their father and older sister. Rage and helplessness ran through her veins, the adrenaline making her shake. She wouldn't win in a fight against her sister despite her strength, not to mention the father sister duo would fight dirty with a hidden knife or just unleash their men on her if she took and and ran.
