Not even a few seconds passed as I walked into my home only to have my best friend calling me. Before I answered, I put my bag on a couch and took off my shoes. My mom was a Nazi when it came to outside dirt, and I wasn't in the mood for yelling. Right at the last second, I answered the call.
"Kora! Are you crazy?!" Steph's voice rang through my ear drum, making me pull the phone away from my ear. She had always had a very high pitched and ear-shattering voice that would make me cringe all the time. But, I have known her forever. We were best friends since 3rd grade, and I have trusted her with everything. Even if she drives me up a friggin' wall.
"Hi, Steph. Glad to hear from you. How's your day been going?" I commented sarcastically.
"Why did you break up with Elliot?!" Of course, she would bring this up.
"It just wasn't working out."
"So you just quit?! I mean, I know you two had your fights, but c'mon! He's smoking hot!!!"
"Steph," I trailed off. This wasn't something that Steph was good at understanding. She always supported me, she was always there to back me up, and she always did her best to understand my situations. But hot guys were where we branched off. "Listen, it wasn't working. And seeing as how it's my senior year, I don't want to have it ruined with a ridiculous relationship. I don't want to be tied to a guy that thinks that just being with him was the greatest gift on the planet. I wasn't happy from that."
The phone was silent. Suddenly, I hear a sigh, followed by another pause. I didn't know what was going through my best friend's mind. "All right, Kora. I'll be supportive of you breaking up with a really hot guy that I still think you should still be with." Of course she'd turn something sweet into a knife. "But, I want you to join me in finding a new guy. It doesn't even have to be serious, just someone you can have during your senior year. Maybe you can use this to annoy Elliot!" So, now she was okay with me breaking up with him? "I'm just saying, you should have a final fling."
"A final fling?"
"Yup, a final fling. You and I are going to find ourselves a hot guy to call our boyfriends as our last chance to find prince charming in high school."
I was quiet.
"Kora, don't you think that's a good idea?"
I was quiet.
"Kora?"
Steph knew about my desire for a prince charming, and she even knew that I didn't think that he existed. But, being the hopeless romantic she was, she always pushed for me dating guys. I guess this was her way of saying this was also her last chance to convince me.
I sighed. "Alright."
"YES! Operation: Final Fling is a GO!" I had to pull my phone away from my ear again. She really needs to work on lowering her pitch sometimes...
~*~*~*~*~*~
It was Friday, and Steph managed to get me out of the house and go to the mall. We didn't have anything we really wanted to buy in mind, but she was on a mission to get me a boyfriend. I didn't really have the heart to tell her that the mall was probably the worst place to find one. The mall was pretty packed, with kids and teens who wanted to hang out walking everywhere. I could definitely see this ending in disaster.
First, we started off going into a few stores, just window shopping. Steph managed to find a cute top and some new earrings after some browsing, but I was just not in the shopping mood. But all the while, both of us were inspecting and searching for cute guys. I have to admit, it was pretty fun just to look around and see who was taken, who'd be a good candidate, and just overall being on the prowl. Of course, I didn't mention that to Steph. She wouldn't be able to shut up about it, saying I was finally seeing the world through her eyes.
But, the day ended uneventful. It was already nightfall, and no one had caught my eye. Both of us felt tired, and I could tell Steph was a bit disappointed in the turnout. Even she didn't find anyone good to flirt on. We continued to walk now in the garage where Steph's car was parked, shopping bags in hand. Steph managed to find a few more things, whereas I only bought a pair of jeans which, I am proud to say, were pretty cheap. The setting was quiet, dark, and quite eerie. I wanted to get out of there fast.
And then something touched my butt. I look around, and some prick actually was behind me, with his hand grabbing my butt. And he smiled at me.
