*** The Spin-Off book, Tears of our Ruins, is completed! It focuses on Cora McKenzie and will be from her POV. Here's a little extra story leading up to that book, from Jessa's perspective. This is a little sneak peek into Cora's life.
JESSA
The sun is peeking in through the windows when I stretch awake. I remember yesterday and smile at the memories. Cora looked beautiful. I'm so happy I convinced her to go to her senior year prom. I knew she would regret not going if she hadn't. She has had a rough year. As her mom, it breaks my heart to see her struggling so badly.
Right before Christmas, Trevor shocked us all and ended his friendship with Cora. Cora experienced her first heartbreak, well, maybe her second heartbreak. Not only did she lose her best friend again, but I now know without a doubt that she had deep feelings for him. He destroyed her, even if she won't admit it to us. She's no longer the carefree happy girl. She's shy. Quiet. Depressed. A loner. She doesn't go anywhere but school and the bakery. I wish the twins were here to help. The only person she talks to is her old friend Patty. Patty and Cora grew apart when Cora and Trevor became such good friends. I'm relieved Patty is around and I hope Cora confides in her.
Bobby's phone goes off and he grumbles as he reaches for it. He's usually a morning person because of the bakery, but we stayed up late last night. He was worried Cora would reach out for a ride home from the after prom party.
"Ava?" Bobby says with surprise into the phone. "It's a little early..." I can't make out what Ava is saying, but she sounds frantic. I immediately worry she's in trouble or something happened with Junno. I reach for Bobby as an assortment of emotions rages across his face. He's moving through them so fast I can't tell how he really feels.
He abruptly hangs up and opens social media.
"What are you doing? What's going on?"
"Hold on." He can barely get the words out. His hands begin to shake as he scrolls on his phone. "What the fuck?! FUCK! I'm going to kill that kid. Shit!" He jumps out of bed and begins pulling on clothes.
I'm terrified. I have no idea what's happening. "Bobby?"
He turns to me and tears begin pouring from his eyes. "Cora." My heart stops with fear. "Fuck!" He punches a hole in the wall as he starts pacing. "I'm going to kill her!"
"Bobby... what happened?"
