A lot of us here are writers. A lot. We hail from all over the world and we all share a similar hobby : writing. Lots of people ask, why write? We say, it gives us peace of mind. At least, that's what I say.

Writing though, may seem easy to do, but it certainly isn't. Let's see what we can do to follow our dream :

Practice : Practice definitely makes perfect. Just sit down and write each day. It doesn't have to be pages and pages, just a paragraph is enough. It needn't be a story, you could describe a place you went to or even a dream you had last night.

Listen : We are all bored, aren't we, when guests come over and we're forced to sit down and smile from time to time. Who wants to know about how someone played pranks as a kid or what happened in someone's job the other day? But if you do listen, you might even discover an event which you liked or you found funny, and no one's stopping you from putting it in your book.

Observe : Look around. So many things around you. Why not try to describe it in your mind? A dry, dead branch fallen on the ground could easily be said as "As I saw a shrivelled, barren stem, lying on the green moss, death and life came together."

Imagine : What if mermaids had wings? What if the man you saw on the street was secretly a wizard? What if my best friend was a serial killer? Imagining the smallest things could make your story way, way more interesting.

Read : Last but not the least, read. Reading improves your vocabulary and your writing style. Take examples from the greatest authors. Read all genres, be it romance or science fiction. It helps broaden your perspective.

This is what I call the PLOIR method. It certainly helps.
