The three men made their way to their new rooms, Sam and Bucky slipping behind the same door with a quick nod in Steves direction. Steve sighed sadly, feeling lonelier now more than he ever had, as his two closest friends became more engrossed in each other, excluding Steve yet again.

Deciding he didn't want to be alone, he moved straight past his door and made his way to YN's chambers, wanting to talk to her about the upcoming mission. Knocking on her door, he stood silently waiting for her to open up. A small, "Just a minute!" came from behind the barrier.

"YN it's Steve, I can come back?" He said, a bit louder than usual to make sure she heard.

After a few beats of silence, the black door opened to reveal a stoic YN, her expression neutral. "What can I do for you, Captain?" She spoke, a formal tone evident in her voice. Steve noted the vast change of character from what he had seen leave Fury's office not even half an hour prior.

Steve frowned slightly, before speaking. "Fury suggested I work with you on who will be leading the mission-" He barely got the last word out before she spoke again.

"You can." The finality of her tone shocked Steve into silence. "Will that be all, Captain?"

Before Steve spoke, he looked down slightly, noticing the shake in YN's hands as they lay by her side, he decided that he wasn't going to let this woman shoulder the responsibility of what had happened.

"Actually, could I come in? Thanks." He shouldered past her before she could decline, already knowing she would.

"Uh-" she said, scratching her neck before continuing. "Be my guest." YN shut the door and turned, slightly shocked to see Captain America casually sitting on the edge of her unmade bed. Blushing, she scurried over to fix the bedding. "Sorry, I wasn't really expecting... anyone really." She murmured.

Steve rubbed the back of his neck, giving her a small awkward smile. YN sat on the edge of her bed, pressing her lips together nervously, slightly on edge as she stared at the larger man.

"So, what did you need to talk to me about?" She said, discomfort licking at the end of her question.

"Well, firstly, I wanted to make sure you were alright? You seemed pretty rattled when you left Fury's office earlier." Steve spoke hesitantly, not wanting to intrude more than he already had.

"Oh, uh..." YN stuttered for a moment before clearing her throat and scratched at her neck again.

Before she could begin again, Steve's hand came up to retract her hand from her neck. "I noticed you do that when you're nervous," He commented, fondly.

"Do what?" YN questioned with a frown, confused by his comment.

"Scratch at your neck, you nearly scratched it red raw back in Fury's office." Steve continued, his voice going soft towards the end of his comment.

YN looked down in embarrassment, her cheeks red. Steve noted how beautiful she looked whilst she was flustered, his eyebrows coming together at the unprofessional thought.

"Anyway, yes, I'm fine. Thank you for checking up on me, but it's really not necessary." She smiled, picking at the bed spread below her. The captain pursed his lips, not believing a single woman was saying.

"You want to try that again? Maybe make it a bit more believable this time?" YN lifted her gaze, shocked at the abrupt question. She stayed quiet for a brief moment, trying to think of something to say without working herself up.

"I guess I just don't deal with making mistakes very well," she sighed, lifting a hand to run it through her hair. "Actually, I hate it. I fucking hate making mistakes." Steve raised his eyebrows as the woman let out a huff before she gasped. "Shit, sorry for the language." Steve chuckled, shaking his head as she blushed.

"Seems like you might be putting a little too much pressure on yourself?" Steve guessed, leaning back in the chair he was now occupying.

"You sound like Fury." YN muttered, rolling her eyes.

"Well, I'm going to start with, and I hate to say it, I agree with Fury," Steve made a show of shuddering, making YN snicker slightly before continuing. "You are putting entirely too much pressure on yourself. The only person that is at fault here, isn't even a person at all. HYDRA is behind this. I know what it's like to be outsmarted by them, all of us do, but you can't let them question your training or your skill, that's when you let them win." He explained, tipping his head back to stare at the ceiling. YN chuckled at the speech, relaxing slightly into her bed.

"Thank you. I know I must seem like some uptight agent who thinks she's never wrong. It's not that, I just have so much to prove here and I feel like one wrong step and I'm back at the bottom of the food chain." She coughed and raised her hand to her neck, before catching herself with a guilty grin. "I don't have that many friends here to talk to about this, sorry..." YN sighed again, the mood once again taking a nose dive.

Steve nodded, understanding what it meant to constantly need to prove yourself in a world that fought nail and tooth to keep you down. Sighing, Steve got to his feet, looking around YN's room as said woman watched him curiously. "What made you start at S.H.I.E.L.D?" Steve asked quietly as he noted no family pictures in the young agent's room. "If you don't mind me asking, of course."

"I suppose I know your story, it's only fair, right?" YN chuckled, earning a small smile from the blonde super soldier. "Came from a family riddled with HYDRA agents." She said, causing Steve's eyes to widen. "My mother and father were HYDRA, had been for about twenty years before they died when I was about eight years old. Anyway, my brother took on the mantle and within a few years of my parents dying, S.H.I.E.L.D raided a HYDRA meeting at our place and he didn't make it. Eventually, a tall man with an eye patch ushered me into a black SUV and the rest is history."

"I'm sorry for your losses." Steve said quietly, the agent sending him a genuine smile of thanks. After a few minutes of comfortable silence, Steve cleared his throat. "Seeming as you and Fury are close and everything... Do you-"

"No," YN chuckled, getting to her feet as she did so. "I don't know the story behind the eye." Steve chuckled, nodding in reluctant acceptance. "I better go and get this interrogation over and done with before Fury gets impatient." Steve followed her from the room with a small laugh, happy that he was able to bring the smile back to YN's lips.

As they walked down the corridor and past Bucky and Sam's side of the hall, Sam's door swung open and a disheveled Bucky lumbered over to his own door, seemingly in a daze. YN narrowed her eyes, turning her gaze to Steve with a raised brow.

"Don't ask me, I never know what's going on with those two anymore." The words Steve spoke were light hearted, but his expression was sad.

"Hey, come on. You can come help me." She decided, hating the pathetic pout on the captain's lips. "Not that I need it." She added, pointing a finger at Steve as the tall man's eyes narrowed.

"Of course not." He chuckled, shaking his head and walking toward the elevator.
