Chapter 22

=====

"I see." Kakashi said after being informed of the newest member of the team, Sai. Both Sai and Naruto held the sides of their faces, a pain throbbing beneath their hands. Kakashi motioned for Sakura to come closer to him, whispering, "It looks like they're both hurt. Was it a fight or something?"

"Oh- Uh it was nothing." Sakura sweatdropped with a sheepish smile.

Sai looked around the room. "I hope it's alright for me to ask, but where is (Y/N)? I thought she would already be here, is she running late?"

Kakashi leaned back in the hospital bed he sat in. "Ah, that's exactly what I wanted to talk about. Did something happen specifically to her on the mission? Maybe Sasuke said something to her or was she hurt in any way?"

"Well, I recall her getting hit by one of Sasuke's attacks originally for me and Naruto." Sai informed Kakashi. "I believe it was called.. Chidori? I remember vaguely speaking about it."

Kakashi shook his head. "I doubt that is what she's hiding."

"She's hiding something?" Naruto asked, his expression holding confusion.

Kakashi nodded, looking out the window of the hospital room. "Yes, I could tell when she was telling me what happened on the mission. I just don't know what she could be hiding or what caused her to hide this."

Sakura thought for a moment before lighting up. "Oh! We took Kabuto away from Orochimaru's lair and had him restrained. All of us made our way back to the lair, but (Y/N) hung back. Maybe he said something to her?"

Kakashi didn't exactly like the sound of that at all. Kabuto was a manipulative bastard and he knew that, Kakashi only wondered if (Y/N) fell for it. Or what he used to convince her. "And you didn't think to ask her about it?"

"Well I asked what had taken her so long and all she did was joke around by saying, 'I was too caught up being a badass.'" Sakura admitted, now knowing she should've looked into her late arrival.

"There's one thing each of you must know about (Y/N)." Kakashi began, "How to tell when she's lying."

"Oh, well I know how to do that." Naruto said, wishing he had been the one waiting outside for her. "You can tell she's lying when she says a joke. Simple as that. She's more predictable than me!"

Sai smiled innocently. "I'm not so sure of that."

"Hey—!"

"I'm not sure what she's gotten herself into, but I want all three of you to follow her. Tell lady Tsunade what's going on then make your way to my house quickly." Kakashi ordered the three who nodded and quickly exited the room, making their way to Tsunade.

"You guys don't think she's following in Sasuke's footsteps.. right?" Sakura asked, worry filling her stomach.

Naruto shook his head. "Pft! As if! She wouldn't do that! That's not her!"

"While I agree with you," Sai began. "Didn't you both think Sasuke was settled here? I don't want to jump to conclusions, I consider (Y/N) a friend, but we simply can't ignore the possibilities."

Silence dropped over the group as they neared Tsunade. Naruto shook his head, "No. She's not like that. She wouldn't do that."

Should I really do this?
(Y/N)'s head was filled with second thoughts as she put an array of weapons in her bag. It wasn't like she didn't think of the possibilities of this being a trap. Luckily Naruto's stupidity hasn't rubbed off on her.
