Burn (chapter 4)
Why? Why did he give up, he knew he had me, he knew he could have won.
"Kat, are you okay!" I didn't even notice her come up to me. We got off the mat and sat down on the bench on the far left of the room. "Kat..." she looked at me with eyes that show how worried she is.
I managed a smile "I'm fine Ty, just..." I looked at the door he exited out, "tired."
"Of course you are!" She yelled, then realizing how load she had been dropped to a whisper. "You just went to hell and back. Is it still happening?" I shook my head. "Good, I hate seeing you in pain." She whispered.
"I know Ty, I know. Hey I'm gonna go get a drink. I'll be back in a bit." I said as I got up. I walked out of the gym quickly, I really wanted to figure out what the heck was going on. I immediately started walking to the rock wall (the space in the back of the school). I know he will be there, he always is. I was two feet away from the door, and I promised myself i wouldn't leave that room until I got my answers.
I took a deep breath and slowly walked into the room. Ace was sitting on the top of the rock wall staring at his tattoo. "Why did you throw the fight." I whispered to myself.
Apparently I said it louder than I thought because he shook his head and said "Well I guess I have a soft heart for you, well at least your pain." All my breath was sucked away because he knew, he knew. And bang, pain again, stronger than before.
I screamed and fell against the wall. I was beginning to curl in a small ball on the floor with my hand clasped around my tattoo. The pain was unbearable, it was a stupid small anchor, how can it bring this much fury.
A hand was placed on my shoulder, and a voice was speaking, but I had no idea to what was said. My screams turned into a whimper, as I slowly started to make out a voice.
"Hey, hey it's okay. I know how it feels. Its okay, it's okay. I'm here." He whispered softly. He, oh god, Ace. Wait, how would Ace know how I feel, oh Jesus, he has it to, the burning.
I slowly looked up at his face, and immediately my pain, gone. I couldn't believe it, we were the same, well with the tattoo pain, that is. He still is a jerk to my best friend and others, including myself. As soon as our eyes meet, he was on the floor in pain. I looked at him shocked, and it clicked, his was burning.
I quickly got up, trying to block my dizziness, and helped him into a sitting position. "Hey, it's okay, try to breath." I whispered softly. He looked up at me trying to smile and I shook my head. "I know the pain, I know the symptoms, how could I have not noticed you showing any? Am I that blind?"
His breath returned to normal pace as he looked at me and whispered, "Well, in your defense I just noticed yours today. I saw the pain in your eyes as you pinned me, I knew you never pin that weak, no offense." He smiled.
"Oh I know, that pin was sloppy, so not my work." I shook my head disappointed, I never pin that bad, ever, even when I'm in pain.
"Seriously, it was bad, if I didn't know how bad your pain was, I would have flipped you and beat you easily." He said seriously.
"Thanks, I appreciate that it makes me feel so much better." I said sarcastically and sighed, "Anyway, when did yours start?"
"I can't even remember, it's like it's been a part of me since I was born.?" He whispered while looking at the ground.
"I can't remember either and I know this will sound really rude, but where do you live?" He looked at me wary and shook his head. He didn't want to tell me, which meant one thing. He was in a shelter too. "It's alright, I'm in one too."
He shook his head and laughed, "This is getting freaky, man. Why the heck are we like this, and as I can tell, no one else is?"
I winced at his loudness, "Well, maybe there are more like us, we just haven't realized it yet, I mean we've been in the same school for 10 years and we didn't even know about each other. Maybe, maybe, we can find someone to help us?" I questioned.
"You do realize that you have no idea on what your getting yourself into, right?" He raised an eyebrow.
I nodded and stood up. "We got to figure out what the heck is going on." I shook my head, "Because honestly, I don't know how long you or me, for that matter are gonna make it with how much pain this brings us." He nodded, obviously agreeing with me.
"I agree, but again we have no idea what we are getting are selfs into." He said. I smiled because actually his sentence changed, it went from you to we.
"Well, I guess we'll see, won't we?" I whispered.
"I guess we will, but how do I know your not tricking me to get revenge for me being mean to Tyler?" I frowned while he smirked. "Shake on it?" He said as he held out his hand. I looked at it, well I do need his help with, well whatever the heck is wrong with us. I shrugged and shook his hand, but we both dropped it immediately.
Because it wasn't a normal handshake it was a wave, a wave of power through both of us, and I knew by the look on his face, he had no idea to what was going through us. My mind was going wild with information and I knew it wasn't time for the tattoo download ( the ones that teach us so that we don't have to go to school). I looked at Ace and realized that he was just as scared as me, he was looking at my arm.
"What's happening to you, your tattoo, it's, it's, changing." I looked at my tattoo and it started to change into a rope wrapping around my wrist, but the anchor, it was still there in its original place. I was shocked, I've never heard of this, I looked over and saw Ace's tattoo blinking.
"Your, yours is too." Is all I could say, it's all I could manage to say. His was forming, taking shape. It was beautiful, it was an anchor (of course) with a rope tying through and around the anchor, it was fitting on his wrist. I was starring at it, while he was mine, as we slowly looked up at each other, and we slowly pulled down our sleeves, covering are wrists. "No one, absolutely no one can know about this." I said as he nodded his head, mentally saying absolutely.
