Burn (chapter 17)
Previously
She pulled up her right pant leg and lifted it and there it was. A mark, the mark. The mark that changes your fate. Devon has one. Devon has an ability. Now
I gap at her trying to figure out what to tell her. How did he do this with me? How did Ace tell me that I have an ability?I called Ace of my room and gestured to her leg amazed at what is happening. He kneeled down and looked at it. It was a vine, a vine twirling around this sphere, nothing like mine. It was like a brand logo or something, like it made her apart of something.
"Okay, honey how much do you know about this, Devon this is very important?" Devon bit her lip and turned away.
"My captures told me this would happen. They said that I would be weak and they had to make me strong." She started to whimper slightly. "This means I have an ability now, right?"
I didn't want to lie to her, she would have found out eventually, but she looked like she hated the idea of being a special. She needs to know though.
Before I got the chance Ace beat me to it, "It means we need to find out if you do. Devon is there any chance that you can heal, it would make the most since, since you have the vines and with your bruises. The vines are symbolic of a healer or helper. I'm not sure what the sphere is though." I had to remind myself that Ace has been in the supernatural world longer than I have. She slowly nodded her head and started to smile.
Before I could even think about a way to find out how to respond, my windows shattered. Every single one. It was like a bomb blew, which it probably did.
As soon as me and Ace made eye contact I knew. This wasn't Sam or his idiots. It was bigger, the bigger thing I felt this morning. "Devon, I need you to hide and be quiet. Right now." I whispered as quietly as possible.
You could tell she was trying hard not to start bawling, but she nodded and hid in the pantry of my kitchen.
I was laying on the floor from the blast, trying to use my speed to help myself and Ace up, I noticed it.
"Ace our abilities. There gone." As soon as the words left my mouth Ace stood up and shoved me behind the kitchen counter.
"Kat, it's the council. They are the only ones powerful enough for that. I think, at least I hope." He added the second part as an after thought, but you can tell he was considering it.
Slam. Crunch. There climbing into my house. Too bad they don't know I have my own security system, at least that will give we a couple minutes.
"You need to hid Ace." Ace looked at me like I was crazy, but I just smiled.
"Operation Break In" My apartment is rigged. I did it about five years ago when I was first given the apartment, my old roommate thought I was crazy.
"What the hell does that mean?" The mouth was covered, a guy though you can tell.
"Intruder, say password, or will start to destroy." God I love my security, to bad it won't be enough to do much.
I shove Ace and into a cabinet knowing that they can't hear me yet over the alarms. "Ace you need to stay here and please don't move, protect her."
