Burn (chapter 13)

"What Ace?" I ask him worryingly. He shakes his head and smiles again, saying one thing that will change my life forever.

"You can control the elements."

Now
I lay in bed staring at the ceiling. Ace left about fifteen minutes ago, he was going to stay with me, but I told him we have a lot of fighting tomorrow, and he needs his rest. He reluctantly agreed, kissing me goodnight and left in a split second.

I close my eyes and think about the terrifying day I've had. Ace was almost killed by my possible twin Sam, and may try again. Ace could have another ability, and I need to control both mine. With that I close my eyes and think about tomorrow and what that could hold.

I wake with a start, what was that? I look at my wrist and see its 5:23 in the morning. I jump out of bed and run to the shower, which didn't take long since I have super speed. I step into the shower and do my daily routine, but all I can think about is what Sam said, "Don't worry Kat, I'm not going after you, just that weak human." Human? What is he implying? That we aren't human? I shake my head and turn off the water.

I dry my hair and let it naturally curl. I wrap a towel around my body and step out into the freezing cold room that I call home. I walk over to my dresser and pull out my clothes for the day; my black sports bra, black skinny jeans, and a black crop top so I can show off my belly bottom piercing. I change and slip on my rings, necklace, and brackets, making sure that my developed tattoo is covered.

I speed over to my couch, and slip on my faded red converse. I walk over to the kitchen, grab an apple and a water bottle. I pick up my studded backpack next to my desk and slip it onto my right shoulder. I look at my watch and smile to myself, 5:40. I step out into the hallway and lock my door. I look at my phone and see that I have a text, from two people.

Ace, saying 'Good morning and see you at school' with two hearts. I smile and text back a quick 'Good morning and see ya' with two hearts as well.

The other text was from Tyler, who said, 'Hey, pick meet you at the fence?' I reply with an 'of course!' and began my short walk to the fence. I would run, but I feel like I shouldn't tell/show her I have abilities, it could cause her harm since Sam is already after Ace.

Ace... My stomach is doing it again... I look up and realize I'm about 25 feet from the location of Tyler. She is wearing a bright neon green shirt and white skinny jeans. She is smiling down at her phone, so I'm guessing she is texting Mike.

When I'm about five feet away she finally looks up and sees me. I do a small smile to her and she smiles largely back. "Kat! Mike asked me to be his girlfriend!"

I smiled for real now, Ty has liked Mike for what seems like forever. "That's awesome Ty! What did you say?" She just handed me her phone giggling while I lifted my eyebrows.

She was showing me there texts;

M- I had a lot of fun yesterday. ;-)
T- Me too! We'll have to do it again sometime.
M- Definitely! Hey, uh, I like you and I have been having a lot of fun. I wanted to ask if you want to be my girlfriend.
T- Absolutely!!
T- I like you too by the way!!
M- Awesome. ;-) So I'll see you at gym.
T- Yep, see you later then
M- Okay, see ya. :-)

I handed her back her phone, "That's awesome Ty, I'm happy for you!"

She just smiled and slides her phone in her pocket. We began walking to Gym while she talked about her and Mike's date last night. They went to the Councils annual carnival that takes place every Sunday. They had their first kiss on the Ferris wheel too. Which is huge for her. I'm so happy she has someone for her to be happy with.

Ty and I reach the Gym and immediately, "Hey, Kat, can you help me find Mike?"

I smile to her and nod an 'of course'. She smiles at me and we head to the main arena that we fight in. She tells me we should look by the punching bags since that's usually where he is, and I follow her there.

Sure enough, there he is standing right next to Ace. Mike sees us walk up and smiles at Ty. Ace and my eyes lock. What are we supposed to do? Are we going to pretend that we aren't together or be open about it? I brake eye contact first and look over to see Mike and Ty kissing, I look away without much of a thought. In my opinion it's awkward to watch someone kiss. They break away after Ace says something on the lines of 'Get a room.' Mike glares at Ace but then turns back to Kat and smiles.

"Oh hey, Kat didn't see you there." It was one of Ace and Mikes friends, Will. All I did was nod. Will smiles at me, winks, and then walks away. I looked away and threw up in my mind. Ace was right across from me, so I looked up at him.

He looked furious, he was totally jealous. And a jealous Ace is dangerous.. and hot. I was gonna walk over to him and comfort him when Ty just had to say, "Kat, he's totally into you! Do you like him?"

I shoot a glare at her and say, "No Tyler it's never gonna happen." She knew to shut up, I used her whole name which I hardly use. I looked to where Ace should be and realized that he was gone. I looked around the room and saw a door slamming shut. I ran slowly towards the door (slowly meaning not with super speed). I caught the door before it slammed and now out of view super speed to Ace.

I stopped right in front of him, causing him to ram into me. He caught me before I feel to ground from impact. He stared at me in shock, while I just smiled slightly.

"You just-you can super speed?" I just nodded. "Tell me you didn't use that in the open?!" I shook my head. "Thank god." He looked up at the ceiling and sighed.

"I don't think we should hide our relationship Ace. Unless you want to." I whispered.

He looked at me funny, "Kat, why would I want to keep us a secret?"

"Because.. because I'm embarrassing."

He moved quickly, he pushed me up against the wall to the left and pinned me there. "You Kat, are not embarrassing. Your anything but. I would be overjoyed to call you mine, not just in private but in public. Any. Day." By the end of this he is staring at me with such meaning that I slowly slide my hands out of his grip and slam them on his chest. He is now the one on the wall, with me pinning him, and before he can say anything, I kiss him with so much passion that I can't even describe.

We continue making out tell we both pause for air. In the end result mine and his shirt is on the floor, and we are panting for breath. We both start laughing quietly and sliding are shirts back on. "Maybe I should get jealous more often if that gonna be the result." He smirks.

I roll my eyes and say, "Don't push your luck, we still have to tell Ty. We may both die once we tell her about us." He widens his eyes and I just drag him away.

"Kat, I'm not as fast as you, slow down." He whimpers since I'm dragging him. I mentally remind myself of that and slow down enough for him to catch up.

Ace sighs and throws his arm over my shoulder. "By the way before you go in there you might want to fix your hair." He whispers. My hands instantly go to fixing my hair.

I look at him with a questioning look, and he just says, "Babe, your hair was fine in my opinion, but I fiqured you wanted to tell Ty about us, not her fiqure out from your make our hair." I blushed and Ace took his hand of my shoulder, "You ready?"

I nodded, "You have no idea." And I walked through the door, knowing Ace was right behind me.
