Isao walked down the pale green hallway and noticed Yuri leaning against the wall beside a brown door. He eyed her rigid stance skeptically. Once he neared the door and sensed the combination of familiar energies, he understood why.
"He is here?" He whispered.
"Ssh," She hissed. "They're waiting for us."
The Anbu member who wore a bear mask knocked, and stepped aside once the doors were open. Stepping into the sky blue room that smelled of jasmine tea, Isao met eyes with a stoic Kakashi. Leaning against the window with his arms crossed. If the tension in the air weren't so thick, he'd tease the two about the glowing magenta aura they both shared. Kakashi glanced at the back of Meilani's head.
Mei looked at the two but didn't bother to try and smile. Isao kept his nerves steady as King Meiji turned and gave them both a stern, disapproving glare. His two guards, Shotoku and Haru, looked as though they wanted to laugh."There you are," Mei glanced at Sakura beside her and nodded. The pink haired girl nodded, and turned the hourglass beside her upside down. "10 minutes."
Naruto eyed his Sensei's stance and copied it, down to the crossing of his ankles and leaning against the desk. Isao ignored Yuri's hardened gaze and Meiji's simmering energy.
"I take it from your reaction, you've figured out who I am. Which of my council told you?"
"I figured it out myself." She answered smoothly. "It wasn't so hard. The secrecy, the ridiculous nickname, it all made it pretty obvious. What I want to know is why. And what the hell you want with me."
The King's jaw tightened slightly. "If I came here any sooner, Ingyo's men would have undoubtedly spotted me and attacked."
"So why are you risking yours and the Leaf's safety now?" Shino questioned from Kakashi's right. "Not only did you order a village-scale genjustu, but a kidnapping of a Hidden Leaf Kunoichi."
"A Kunoichi," the King muttered. "hardly a life for a Princess."
"Lady Tsunade is considered a Princess of her clan. And she is one of the legendary Sanin." Mei found her patience wearing thin, with one of her feet under the desk tapping against her opposing ankle. "Now what. Do you. Want?""To speak alone."
Mei scoffed. "Forget it. The last time you wanted to speak alone, you sent these two. That was stupid, by the way."
The King stood abruptly and stepped forward. Pausing at the sight of the young blonde boy shielding Meilani with his whole arm. Meiji gave Naruto a once over, unsure of how such a young boy can give off such scorching energy.
"How old are you, young one?"
"I'll be 13 in a few weeks. What's it to you, old man?"
Brows knitting together, the King glanced at Isao. The Captain shrugged, holding back a laugh. Meiji cleared his throat and moved towards a window on his left.
"I come here now because Ingyo has stretched his forces out so thin, slipping between has become manageable. He's growing desperate. Once he's discovered you're here, and he will, based on your reputation, he'll stop at nothing to get to you.""She's asking why." Kakashi stated. Meilani furrowed her brows as she picked at her fingernails under the table. She and Lady Tsunade exchanged glances at one another. Tsunade watched Mei intently, while her own thoughts roamed.
"Because Meilani is the only person who can find what he is looking for. What we both search."
"My Lor-"
"It's fine, Shotoku." Meiji looked across the vast amount of buildings that offered a mere glimpse of Konoha's lands. "This war is about more than the mutiny that took place. In our lands, there is a sacred Rainbow Moonstone. It's believed to have been gifted to our ancestors by a goddess. And used by them to not only create the island but to nurture the grounds and its cultivation for generations."
Meilani caught Isao narrowing his eyes at the mention of the moonstone, but continued to listen.
"During the war, it was taken in the vaults and lost after the siege. It was rumored that a handful of mercenaries were hired to steal royal heirlooms. And decided to take it as a reward for their work."
Lady Tsunade held her chin. "I'm not sure I understand what Meilani has to do with all of this, with all due respect."
Meiji nodded once. "It's rumored that with enough power, one can channel chakra into the stone and harness it as a weapon. Something that cannot happen, especially if my brother were to find it. If Meilani has inherited her mother's power, then she has access to the Sosen no me. It's a kekkei genkai that allows her to see through the history of an object, merely through a sense of touch. Say, an amulet. With the right amount of concentration, she would be able to see its predecessors, and the lives they led. Even where and how it was created."
Tsunade ignored Jiraiya's heated glance. "And you think it can help you discover the stone's location?"
He nodded again. "Without it, the lands will slowly perish and our way of life will be completely destroyed. I have a few sources that have already seen signs of decay on the land..... I had hoped to reach out to the Princess and explain all this myself, but I now realize the recklessness of how I went about it."
Meilani shifted uncomfortably when she felt everyone's eyes on her and her birth father. Meiji waited until their eyes met to continue.
"I also realize how much it is to ask, and how much all of it is to take. For that, I'm sorry."
Mei scoffed bitterly, looking away. However, to her horror, she didn't expect Naruto to speak up.
"You sure as hell don't seem sorry. Sounds to me like you just want to use her."
"Naruto-"
