A S H L Y N N

I made a small noise as a beeping started to fill my ears. I lifted my right hand to rub my eyes tiredly. When I opened them I saw the dreary hospital room. I let my head roll to the left and I saw Daisy hunched over in the chair, her head in her arms as she slept.

“Daisy,” I said weekly but that was enough to wake her up.

“How are you feeling?” she asked.

“My head hurts,” I replied.

“You had to get a few stitches. Can I lay with you?” she asked, a small sliver of hope in her eyes.

I shuffled to the right and opened up my blankets, inviting her in, “you’re no longer the size of a balloon,” I said after a minute of silence.

“Yeah I uh…I had him on Saturday,” she replied and I shuffled so I was snuggled into her side.

“So it’s a boy?” I asked for clarification.

“Yeah, Austin Eljah,” she told me.

“That’s cute. Where are the others?” I asked and looked up at her.

“Ashton took them to see him,” I gave her a confused look and she smiled slightly. “He’s two months preature so he’s in the special unit for premmies,” she explained.

“Ah ok. Who’d you pick to be his god parents?”

“You and Blake,” she answered.

“Me?” I asked in shock.

“Of course. Me may have been fighting but you’re still my best friend. Ashlynn I love you,” I hugged her tighter and smiled to myself.

“I love you too,” I replied.

“I’m sorry I didn’t try and contact you”

“It’s ok”

“No it’s not. I knew what was going on and I didn’t try and reach out to my best friend. I feel terrible”

“Stop now. You’re ginging me a head ache,” I laughed and she laughed quietly.

“We’ve planned an attack on Dan,” she said after a while.

“Ok,” was all I responded with.

It was silent for a while longer before we both heard a noise. I looked up and saw Luke standing awkwardly at the door. No one said anything; I just dropped my head so it was resting on Daisy’s chest again.

“I need to go and see Austin,” she said then slipped out of the bed.

I sat up in the bed with my legs crossed while Luke sat on the chair, “how are you feeling?” he asked quietly.

“My head hurts,” I answered.

“I’m sorry about Dan,” he said after a while.

“It’s fine,” I said then looked at my hands as I picked at my nails.

“He’s an idiot”

“Maybe he didn’t even like me,” I said as tears came to my eyes.

“Ash no,” he said then sat on the edge of the bed and pulled me into his chest. “He’s just an asshole who took what he had for granted,” he said then started rubbing my back.

“I want to go away and never come back,” I said and clutched his shirt.

“I know baby,” he whispered.

Only short. Sorry. This writer's block is killing me
