A S H L Y N N
When I was about twelve weeks mum decided we'd start moving all my things into Kian's room and vice versa. He was home from Uni for the weekend since he graduated the next weekend and now was the perfect time otherwise we'd have all his Uni stuff to move too. To save time we ended up just swapping bed since they were the same anyway. We'd had to do an extensive clean out before we started moving things but that didn't bother me since I knew it needed to be done. I ended up throwing out all my school stuff, putting clothes I didn't want/need in a bag to give to charity or sell and I cleaned out my desk. I stood in Kian's messy room and tried to imagine where I was going to put everything.
"You won't have enough room for your desk," mum told me.
"I can make it fit," I scoffed.
"All right but when you're heavily pregnant, cant sit at it properly and it's taking up too much space don't come crying to me," she sassed so I rolled my eyes in retaliation.
"She's right," Kian bluntly told me.
"Which is code for I want it," Arielle told me.
"I'm aware," I sighed then looked my brother in the eyes. "You want it?"
"Yes please," he smiled cheekily. "You can have my dresser since I never really used it and there's enough space in your closet that I don't need it."
"Thanks," it wasn't a fair deal but I figured I could use it for baby stuff.
The next few days were spend hauling everything from one room to the other before we were completely switched. Arielle and I had also been scouring goodwill's and Ikea for baby furniture. We ended up picking up a new dresser I was going to use as a change table from goodwill, along with a few photo frames, a lamp and a mirror. At IKEA I picked up a crib and a cute chair. I got Kian to assemble the crib for me then put it roughly where I wanted it once he was done. I left the draws and everything in the garage so I could paint it once I knew the gender.
"Only four more weeks until you know if it's a boy or girl," mum smiled brightly.
"God I want a girl," I laughed.
"Patience is key," she laughed.
I poked my tongue out at her but she just gave me the finger before walking off. It was my night to cook dinner so I decided to head downstairs and make a start. I'd decided on pasta bake so I made up everything I needed and dumped it into the tray. Next thing I knew my phone was blaring.
"Yellow?" I answered.
"Do you have a decent digital camera?" Luke asked from the other end.
"Yes. Why?" I asked.
"Are you in comfortable but nice clothes?" he was still so confusing.
"Yes..." I hesitantly answered.
"I'll be over in ten," was all he said before he hung up.
I laugh-sighed to myself, sprinkled cheese onto the pasta bake then put it in the fridge. I went upstairs and quickly styled my hair a bit then waited on the front step for Luke. The sun was just beginning to set so the sky looked lovely. His car pulled up so I stood up.
"What's going on?" all he did was hold something up with a cheeky grin.
"Where's your camera?" I retreated inside then grabbed mum's Nikon D3400.
"So what are those things?" I asked once I was back outside.
"Smoke bombs. I thought we could use them for a mini photo shoot to announce your pregnancy once we know what gender it is," he rushed.
"What coloured bombs did you buy?" I asked since we didn't know the gender.
"Blue and pink. We can take some nice ones with each then post the right colour when we know," he explained and all I did was nod once he was done.
"Alright. Well...you first then," I instructed then turned on the camera.
He shrugged to himself but once I was ready he pulled the string. I ended up taking quite a few photos before it was my turn with the blue. I then moved on to pink as Luke had the camera so it made sense. After we were finished it was dark out and I had to finish dinner.
"Luke are you staying for dinner?" mum shouted from her bedroom window.
"Yes please," he shouted back.
We eventually migrated inside so I could put the pasta bake in the oven. Once I'd done that I took out the SD card and put it in my laptop. I put all the photos into a folder then Luke and I went through and picked our favourites from each colour. Dinner was fin. We all made fun of each other and just had a laugh. By the time we were all done mum was ready to turn in for the night.
"Have you told him about the stuff we brought?" Arielle asked.
"What stuff?" Luke immediately asked.
"Some baby stuff," I shrugged.
"I wanna see," he told me excitedly.
I sighed but agreed. We gave Kian our dishes since he was on washing duty then I took Luke into the garage.
"The tall chest of draws was Kian's but he gave it to me. The other one we got from goodwill," I explained. "I'm gonna paint the draws in the tall one when we find out the gender then the small one will be one colour," I continued.
"That's awesome. I haven't even begun preparing," he chuckled.
"I got a crib too if you want to see it," I told her nervously.
"Hell yeah," he smiled brightly.
He followed me up the stairs, got confused when I didn't go into my old bedroom, and then followed me into my new one. I let him in first but couldn't help notice the smile on his face when he saw the crib.
"That's really cute," he told me.
"Thanks," I smiled back.
