L U K E

When I pulled up at home I could see Ben and Jack’s cars were out the front. I dreaded going inside but mum had asked for me to come home. When I opened the door I was immediately attacked by my two older brothers.

“Congratulations little bro,” Ben said after he’d put me in a head lock.

“Little Lukey’s all grown up,” Jack cooed then started giving me a noogie.

“Let me go,” I said and tried to pull out of their grip but together they were too strong.

“Boy!” mum shouted, causing my brothers to let me go.

I glared at the two but mum interrupted that, “Luke go and get hanged. We’re leaving soon”

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“Out to celebrate your graduation,” she told me.

I shrugged and made my way to my room. No one was dressed too fancy so I just put o some black skinny jeans, my red and black flannel and my black vans. Thanks to Jack I had to redo my hair as well.

“You’re such a girl,” Ben said from my doorway.

“Why? Because I actually take pride in my appearance?” I asked sassily.

“Oh honey, you look so fabulous,” he said, making the gayest voice possible.

“I always knew you were gay,” I said then pushed past him.

“I’m straighter then you Lukey. How long’s it been since you’ve had a girlfriend? Like a year or two?”

“So? Doesn’t mean I’m gay”

“What’s the manliest thing you’ve done in the last six months?” he asked and I bit my lip. “No way!”

“Shh!” I shouted.

“Jack got over here!”

“Ben shut up!” I demanded.

“What?” Jack asked, walking over.

“Little Lukey finally became a man,” Ben smirked.

“Awe that’s so cute,” Jack cooed and went to ruffle my hair but I slapped him away.

“Don’t tell mum,” I begged.

“Awe Lukey,” Ben cooed.

“I’m being serious. I know things remember,” I threatened and they both looked at me, completely serious.

“Fine,” they said then shook my hand to seal the deal.

“Boys we’re leaving!” mum called.

It was now twelve in the morning and I couldn’t sleep. My brothers had both left at ten and I was sent to bed. I heard my phone start vibrating from my bedside table. When I picked it up I saw Ashlynn was calling.

“Did I wake you?” was the first thing she asked.

“No,” I answered simply.

“Ok good. Why are you still up?” she asked quietly.

“Thinking about Uni,” I answered.

“Ah. Did I say anything to upset you last night?”

“It was only last night two minutes ago,” I said then let out a soft chuckle.

“Very funny. I mean on the right of your formal”

“Nah”

“Mum said I was talking about it but I was too fast for her to understand”

“You do talk really fast when you’re drunk”

“As long as I didn’t try and take my clothes off”

“You offered to have sex with me again,” I said and she groaned.

“We didn’t did we?”

“No. I would never take advantage of you like that”

“Thank you Luke. You’re a good guy”

“Thanks. Why are you awake?”

“I don’t know. Couldn’t sleep I guess”

“That sucks”

“Yeah. I still think Daisy’s hiding something”

“What did she tell you was wrong?”

“That she was having personal issues. Whatever that means”

“Maybe she’s scared of something but doesn’t want to tell you because it might not happen”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know. Her and Ash or something?”

“You’re not helping”

“I’m too tired to help”

“Gee thanks”

“Welcome”

“I’m going to miss seeing you everyday. Even when we hated each other the highlight of my day was getting to insult you”

“Gee thanks”

“Welcome”

We both laughed for a little bit, “I’m going to miss you too”

“You need to keep in touch. You can’t just get some collage girlfriend and forgot all about me”

“I promise I won’t Ash”

“You can call me Lynn if you want. Mum does and it’s something different to Ash. Just so you don’t get me and Ashton mixed up”

“Why Lynn?”

“It’s the other half of my name dummy”

“Right…right”

“What’s wrong? You sound forlorn”

“What does that mean?”

“Like sad”

“Oh. Nothing. I’m just tired I guess”

“Do you want me to go?”

“No it’s cool. I’ll probably just lay here awake if you hang up”

“So…have you decided where you’re going yet?”

“UWS. It’s just easier and that means I don’t have to move”

“Ah I see”

“Ashlynn why aren’t you in bed?” I heard her mum ask.

“I will in a sec. Just let me say goodbye to Luke”

“Whatever”

“Sorry about her. Got to go. I’ll talk to you later”

“Alright. Bye Lynn”

“Bye Luke”
