24. Fate VI - I leapt and loved before I looked

"It has social stigma among vampires who drink each other's blood.. it's.. not a common practice and is often frowned upon.. in ancient times it was considered an unacceptable practice and it wasn't tolerated..."

"Oh..."

Brett's father spat out;

"Even in modern times Brett.. you should know that it is still considered an unacceptable practice and not tolerated by many...."

Brett's mother interjected;

"Honey.. considering the dire situation our son is in.. I think we as parents have to support him in whatever way we can for his eternal survival!!"

Brett looked at his mother in surprise. It was the first time he heard her use such a curt tone towards her husband.

Brett's mother continued;

"We don't know how much Eddy will crave for that girl, or for human blood when he gets his next urge. From what you've explained to us Brett, Eddy seemed to have detached himself from that girl so quickly, his vampire urges don't seem very strong. This may be a good thing, it may be easier to wean him with your blood, which will taste significantly different from a human's."

Brett furrowed his brows and inquired anxiously;

"But Mother, what if.. what if Eddy finds my blood so different from that girl's.. and hates it so much and rejects me? Like I had of her?"

"Well.. there's a bit of hope for you left because you've been drinking Eddy's blood, your blood may be a bit more palatable to Eddy than the blood of a vampire that consumes pure human blood. So there is a better chance of Eddy not rejecting you outright. It might help if you drink Eddy's blood first.. in an attempt to make yourself a bit more palatable to him. You're way overdue for a feed anyway. Then let Eddy try your blood."

Brett nodded.

"So.. we should do this.. I would drink Eddy's blood first.. I then should get Eddy to drink my blood...oh but wait.. how's he gonna do that when he doesn't have fangs...?? He used the punctures I made with my fangs when he drank that girl's blood.."

"He can still use his own teeth.. like you did when you were 5... it's a bit messier though, as in your bite wound would be. Alternatively, there are tools to make punctures.. I think we still have the one we bought for you when you were younger.. it's probably somewhere in our kitchen drawer.."

Brett bit his lower lip as he gingerly asked;

"Mother.. if we do decide to do this.. this is going to stop Eddy from living his life outside this estate, isn't it?"

Brett's mother sighed.

"I'm afraid so. Eddy won't be able to... go out there and find a partner and start his own family if he is going to be reliant on your blood for survival. The same thing will apply to you. In particular you're showing signs of affection towards Eddy and I doubt any of your future partners would appreciate or understand that. Like we said before, for a vampire to feed off a certain individual for survival is... unorthodox and... generally not well received.."

Brett stammered as he blushed.

"I.. I don't mind.. for obvious reasons.. but it's.. it's not fair on Eddy.."

Eddy looked up towards Brett's mother;

"Ma'am, I said it before and I'll say it again.. I'll do anything to ensure Brett maintains his immortality. It would be unfair for him to give up such a fate when he was meant to live forever. Please tell me what I must do."
