"MERRY CHRISTMAS, DAD." kailee greeted her father, hugging him tightly before moving to the next, "merry christmas, dad."
she didn't like calling them by their first names unless she truly had to. kailee enjoyed knowing she had two dads awaiting for her, and that always made her happy to acknowledge that.
handing them their gifts she had bought in los angeles, she couldn't help but feel the pang in her chest when the doorbell rang, lost in thought as she remembered how horribly last christmas had gone for her.
"i'll get it, you both keep opening your presents."
as the brunette wandered through the front hall into the front foyer, she didn't know why someone should be ringing her doorbell at this hour, along with who would be out on christmas day.
taking a deep breath, she put a small smile on her face, only to have a shocked one after she opened the door.
"daniel!" she squealed, wrapping her arms tightly around him, taking in his scent once more.
"god i missed you, dan." she smiled softly, her eyes welling up. "what are you doing here?"
"i got a last minute flight last night and i stayed at a hotel before i came over this morning."
"why aren't you celebrating christmas with your family?"
"because i know how fucked up everything got last year and i know you and i haven't ever celebrated christmas together unless we both were in portland together with our families, but i ruined what we had and i wanted to make up for it."
his hand slowly grazed her cheeks, wiping away the stray tears that were threatening to fall. "you came here to see me." she started to cry, reiterating what he had already said.
"please don't cry, baby. i love you but i can't have you start crying."
"its okay, i'm okay." she mumbled, letting their eyes finally meet.
his striking blue eyes brought back every emotion within the girl that she's ever had for him- but at this moment, there wasn't any anger. there wasn't any regret nor painful memories. all she thought of was how happy they were every year, how much she loved him and he felt the same way.
"can i kiss you?" without saying a word, her guiding him with a small nod, he knew to take it slow.
her trust in him had been ruined last year, yet spending barely enough time together, it caused them all to assume there wasn't any pain.
"i also have a surprise for you if you're up to having guests?"
"only if you'll stay with me." she mumbled, burying her head into his chest momentarily.
waving towards the running car kailee hadn't noticed before, there was more than one car parked there as well.
daniel's family and the boys stepped out of the vehicles, all of them with smiles on their faces as daniel turned to look at his girl. "are you happy?"
"i'm worried i look horrible in the mornings and i haven't seen everyone in a while-"
"you look beautiful, you always do. never think for a second that you weren't the most-"
"can you two stop flirting with each other for two seconds and daniel let us greet the poor girl." corbyn scolded jokingly, tugging kailee out of the tight grip daniel had on her. "missed you, kails."
"missed you too, bean." he pressed a kiss in her hair before going to greet kailee's dads, who seemed to know everyone was arriving.
"hi jack." she greeted next, hugging the boy briefly before moving onto zach. "hey zach."
