pretty girlKAILEE WASN'T SURE WHAT she was doing, especially when she knew she hurt daniel. but as she saw corbyn's goofy grin when he stepped out the door, the skip in his step made her feel better. she was doing what she needed to do. she was becoming the person she needed to be.
"kailee hazel brooks, what a surprise that you're here." he chuckled, leaning down to stick his head in her open window.
"hi corbyn." she greeted softly, feeling suddenly shy around the boy. "i missed you so i wanted to stop by."
"i missed you too pretty girl even though it's only been twelve hours since i haven't seen you- not that's anyone's counting or anything."
"do you wanna go get ice cream with me?"
"i thought you said you and alexis had plans today?" he wasn't trying to get out of the plans, he was just wondering what happened. "never mind jo left like two hours ago. i'm assuming you wanna go back to your place after ice cream?"
"please?" her eyes were soft, puppy dog eyes that he fell for every single time.
"let me go grab my keys and shit, i'll be back in two minutes." pecking her lips, he couldn't help but turn back as he was walking up the front steps, admiring the girl who sat in her car with the windows down, him able to see her fighting off one of the biggest smiles she's had in a long time.
"kailee?" daniel asked, not seeing corbyn enter the home, his car pulling up next to hers.
"oh hey, daniel." she greeted, her voice light as she attempted to not stare, fighting off the urge to break down in this second.
"i haven't seen you around the house in a bit i only assumed that you were picking up some more of your stuff from jo's room." daniel admitted, knowing how hard it's been.
"no, i've gotten everything out of here. i'm just waiting for corbyn so i can hangout with him."
"are you two?" he trailed off, not wanting to say that they were together.
"we aren't together, daniel. but he makes me happier than i felt in the last few months with you if i'm being entirely honest. he makes time for me, he doesn't care about how he feels because he cares about me."
"i see you soft launched your relationship already."
"we aren't dating, dan. i wouldn't ever lie to you about that."
the boy sighed, stepping away from her car as corbyn left the house once more, both looking over at the boy jogging over to them, the guilty look daniel had on his face made corbyn question but didn't say a word.
"you ready to go?" he asked, kailee nodding.
"bye daniel," she said rather quietly, her then backing out of the driveway.
every time he saw her, and every time he watches her leave it feels like he'd never see her again.
