Mello P.O.V.
Three hours later.Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. My watch clicked along as time drew on; familiarity was a suffocating thing. I remembered sitting in our original vehicle, waiting for Matt to wake up and show me if he was alive. I felt like so long ago... back then, I was in a constant state of worry. A state I didn't want to return to. The hands on the clock were tormenting me, staring at me as they turned on, knowing my inner torment and not caring.
The door to Matt's apartment clicked open. Light swarmed into the room, hungry for the darkness lurking within. Instinctively, I blocked my daughter's face from it as she slept in my arms, her small face nuzzling into my chest sleepily. I smiled slightly before covering it up with a scowl as a tired looking Matt shuffled in. He dumped a heavy backpack on the floor- it landed with a thump, yet he only glanced at it apathetically before carrying on.
He met my eyes and groaned, running a mucky hand through his greasy and shaggy brown hair. "No."
"Mail." A warning.
"No." He strained, "You aren't telling me off. Not right now. I'm tired and dirty and in pain. So fuck off." I frowned with real concern as he made his way to his room. Harmony was over at mine with Ash. Nick was in his own room, fast asleep in his bed. Gently standing up so I didn't wake up my daughter, I carried her into Matt's room after him. From the doorway I saw him pull off his vest and abandon it on the floor before he flopped onto the bed with a frustrated, tired sigh. Pity stung me.
"In pain?"
"Shoulder pains." He grumbled into his pillow, muffled greatly by the material. With a smirk, I lay Sienna at the end of the bed before walking around to the side. Crawling on like a child, I quickly straddled his back and started massaging it. He tensed beneath me.
"Relax, I'm not going to hurt you."
"Uh huh, with those nails blondie?" Purposefully I dug my nails into his skin. Matt hissed in pain and I grinned sadistically. "Okay okay I'm sorry!" He turned his head side ways, resting it on top of the back of his palms. One bright, leaf green eye peeked up at me with spirals of dark emerald and shining jade. Specks of brown could be faintly seen. I smirked at him before retracting my nails from his back and massaging his back again. His eyes closed. I didn't want them to, but instinct told me that if I kept hurting him to make him open his eyes he'd go ballistic and I'd never get to do this again. Pressing my thumbs into his back between the shoulder blades gently and moving them up to the base of his neck, I felt him completely relax.
We were silent as I continued to massage his back, moving my hands around and finding new ways to make him sigh with content and make little noises of approval. My main focus was on his shoulders- specifically the one he had been carrying the backpack on. I could feel the tension in his shoulder beneath my fingertips- and of course beneath his cotton shirt. Quietly, I murmured, "Are you an idiot?"
An eye flickered open, meeting mine with intensity. "If you're trying to relax me, insulting me isn't the way to go."
I snorted and punched him in the back. He flinched. "You went out there without me."
"So?" Matt grumbled and I looked at him like he needed a reality check.
"I don't want you to get hurt again numbskull."
He sighed and closed his eyes. "I'm not going to, Mello."
"If you got yourself killed, I'd resurrect you and kill you again." I growled, "Understood?!"
"Yeah." Matt smiled sleepily as I began massaging his back again, rougher than before. "I understand."
"Good."
There was a sound behind me as Matt fell asleep, his features softening out. When I looked over my shoulder, my daughter was waking up. Her little mouth was in an 'o' as she yawned, her little fits stretching up as her legs kicked. I smirked and stopped massaging Matt, reaching behind me and picking her up into my arms. Seeing my face, she burst into a beam and a round of giggles. I smiled down at her, kissing her forehead. "Shh, we don't want to wake Uncle Matt do we?" I shook my head at her but she kept giggling and gurgling. "What you laughing at baby girl?"
She gurgled before shouting, "Dadda! Daa di!" I quickly hushed her with a glance at Matt.
"Quiet Sienna! Shhhhh!" I put my finger to my lips, yet she reached up trying to grab my hand. Her face scrunched up when she couldn't reach, tears building up in the corners of her eyes. Afraid that she would burst into tears, I gave her my hand. "Oh God don't cry! Please please don't!" Sienna beamed at me as she grabbed my arm and gummed my knuckles, making little happy noises. I smiled.
"Oh my angel..."
"Mmmmm I know I'm amazing but I'm no angel..." Matt murmured sleepily from beneath me, making me roll my eyes.
"Shut up."
Sienna giggled at my annoyed tone before she looked towards Matt with her eyes, gurgling. "Daaaaa Maaaa ma ma ma ma!" She cooed to him and I laughed, watching as he forced his eyes open to look over his shoulder at us. Those green eyes of his were tinged with sleepiness.
"Little Si..." Matt grinned at her and I lowered her slightly so she could pat her small fists against his back. He laughed at the sensation and I grinned. The only thing missing from the moment was Nick- for a moment, I forgot I was nearly 25. I forgot Si was Ash's daughter as well as mine. It was just... our little world.
And then our world was smashed to pieces, fragments cutting deeply into our soft, fragile flesh. The bedroom door opened and there stood Ash. I looked over at her and she took in the situation. I knew how it looked.
But you know what reader?
I didn't care.
"It's Sienna's bedtime." She spoke and Matt quickly closed his eyes, acting like he was fast asleep. Getting off of my best friend's back, I took my giggling daughter into my arms and carried her to her mother. Swiftly Ash took her from me and held her close, maternal instincts coming into play, before turning away. Si looked over her mother's shoulder at me, her innocent blue eyes making me smile weakly, before she tried eating some of her mother's hair. Ash stopped her and started walking out. "Harmony's asleep on our couch. Be back at ours before Midnight."
And then she was gone. With a sigh, I looked over at Matt. "You heard the lady. Har's at mine tonight."
Matt moved slightly so he could lie on his side, looking at me with a sleepy grin. "Just me here then."
"Yeah."
We were in a comfortable silence for a bit before Matt sighed and pulled the duvet from under him, putting them on top of himself. He grinned at me and closed his eyes. "Well I'm going to sleep."
"Alright." I responded casually before starting to walk out. "I'll beat your ass up in the morning."
He snorted and I left the room. Quickly I left the apartment and closed the front door behind me, listening to the soft click. With a sigh I leaned my head back against the wood and took a deep breath. My heart shouldn't be acting like this. My mind shouldn't be clouded and wandering- it should be focused "Damn it!"
L's owl-like eyes stared down at me from the floor above, an interested smile on his face that was distorted slightly by his thumb to his lips. He bit on his thumb lightly as he sat in his crouched position. "Interesting." He murmured, looking over his shoulder at a silently cackling BB and a smiling Maddy. "There is a 87% chance of drama."
And so I walked to my apartment sighing, back to the less... wild thoughts I had, back to the more rational ones.
