"Gabe I know you're going to hate this idea, but I booked myself in for a maternity photoshoot and I would love for you to be there" I said, bracing myself for the inevitable rejection.
"Sure," he said, not taking his eyes off his laptop screen.
"Were you listening?"
"Yes, you have a maternity photoshoot and you want me to be there"
"In the photos though"
"Yes, that's fine" he said as he placed his laptop on the coffee table and grabbed my foot to massage it.
"You're sure?" I asked, stifling a groan of pleasure as he massaged my calf.
"Yes Harper, I will be there in the photos with you and your belly. It's fine" he said with finality.
"Oh, well thank you"
"When is it?"
"Next week" I replied. He nodded though he had a far away look on his face. I tried to continue reading my book as Gabriel absentmindedly rubbed my legs. He was watching a documentary on his laptop and most of his attention seemed to be directed towards it. The crackle of the wood in the fireplace and the warm woolen blanket around my shoulders made me feel cozy. I watched Gabriel and envisioned the type of father he would be, the type of family life we would have together and whether one child was going to be enough or if we would inevitably decide to have more children together. Either way, once my baby was born, I was okay with whatever decision we came up with.
Gabriel looked up at me, catching me admiring him and a slow smile spread across his face. He nudged his head summoning me towards him, and I clumsily made my way between his legs leaning back against his torso and replacing the blanket over us. I rested my head in the crook of his shoulder while his hands cradled my swollen belly and his lips placed soft kisses at my temple.
"You look absolutely stunning with my baby inside you," he said in a low husky voice.

I had Axel groomed and brought him along to the photoshoot. Despite the fact that he had become more attentive since the beginning of my pregnancy, following me around a lot more and growling at any man that approached me, Axel was very well behaved during the photoshoot. We followed the photographer into a field where she snapped a few pictures of me by myself. I wore a flowy white dress, leaving my neck and shoulders exposed and my straightened hair down. At 36 weeks pregnant it was difficult getting down onto the ground for some of the shots, but our photographer was patient and helpful. I did a few sweet shots with Axel before getting Gabriel involved. There was no whining or complaining from his part and I was shocked to see how well he followed the photographer's directions. He wore a nice pair of black jeans with a white button down shirt.
"Harper, can you turn that way" the photographer called, "and Gabriel, stand behind her with your hand just below her belly on her hip, yes! Like that, don't move. Okay, Harper look up at him, keep your hand on top of your belly." She called out a few more directives before getting us into different positions and working on the angles. She had me step away from Gabriel with my back to him before telling me to face him. When I turned, Gabriel was kneeling in front of me, with Axel by his side and holding up a ring. I heard the camera clicking away as realization dawned on me.
"Harper, will you do me the honor of being my wife?" Gabriel asked with a nervous smile. I gasped as this was not something I had ever imagined possible with Gabriel. I had never fantasized about being his wife and I had never been the type of girl to daydream about my wedding all I had wanted from him was his loyalty. "Harper?" he asked, concerned, his smile faltering a little. Having been an emotional wreck since the first trimester I was not spared the tears that overflowed from my eyes. I bawled like a baby as I nodded.
"Yes, Gabriel, I will marry you" I choked as I lunged for his neck. He caught me last minute and we both tumbled into the grass. He laughed as he kissed me over and over again, genuine happiness drawn on his face. Axel growled sniffing out the situation before realizing everything was under control. Gabriel pushed the ring onto my finger and I admired the huge rock he had purchased. I knew nothing about jewelry and this was the first time I had received diamonds or gold. But I appreciated the dainty band with it's several diamonds embedded within while the main diamond attraction was large and round. It looked fantastic on my finger and I admired it some more before returning to the moment.
"You like it?" Gabe asked.
"Like it? Gabriel, it's beautiful, I love it!" A smug look crossed his face, "You did good, I never expected this!" I said softly before kissing him.
"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you Harper," he said, kissing me again.
I spent the entire trip home gawking at the huge rock on my finger and staring up at Gabriel in disbelief. He had a dumb grin on his face too and the two of us would burst into giggles seeing each other's reaction.
I called my mom, Lane and Janice to tell them about our big news, while Gabriel talked to Chrissy and Matteo, most of them were disappointed we weren't calling about the baby but quickly got over it and congratulated us.
