We had made it to the last couple of weeks of the summer with very little excitement at the camp. Everything seemed to be running smoothly and Gabriel proudly announced this was his most successful season so far. The house had sold and we had slowly started to move into our new house, though we spent most of our time at the cottage to enjoy the lake on our days off.

"Why are you making a bagel?" Gabriel asked one morning as he filled his plate with bacon and eggs.

"To eat..." I said with a frown.

"You don't eat bagels" he said looking at me curiously, "Is this a pregnancy thing?"

"No, I don't, and no it's not"

"Who are you specially making bagels for?" he asked, annoyed.

"Thank you Harper" one of the young guys said as I handed him freshly buttered bagels.

"Why is my girlfriend making you bagels Parker? What's wrong with the eggs and bacon she made this morning?" Gabriel asked, cautiously eying the plate of food in front of him.

"There's nothing wrong with what she made, but I'm a vegetarian," the young man replied warily. Gabe looked at me with an arched brow.

"The bagel is dripping with butter, which is from an animal isn't it?" he said, challenging the nervous young man.

"I still eat butter, cheese and honey"

"It's okay Parker, go eat" I said in a soothing voice sending him into the dinning hall. Gabriel gave me a look of disbelief.

"Baby, you can't go making special meals for every little whims these guys have."

"Gabe, it's a bagel, relax."

"Hmmph" he said as he began shoving eggs into his mouth. I felt a sharp cramp in my lower belly which took my breath away. I did the best I could to hide it from Gabriel but he immediately noticed the white knuckle grip I had on the tea towel in my hand. "You okay?" he asked with a deep scowl.

"Yeah, just a little cramp, that's all"

"Is it the baby?" he asked, now fully concerned.

"I don't know, I've been having cramps on and off all morning" I replied truthfully.

"Do you need to go to the doctor's?" he answered, placing a hand on my belly, his face full of concern.

"I don't think so. I'll just sit for a bit and maybe it will pass."

"Okay, but let me know if it gets worse, I don't want you to wait too long," he warned.

"I'll be fine" I said as I took his plate and kissed him, "have a good day!"

"You too." He straightened out his hat and left the kitchen as Jenna came in carrying condiments from the tables.

"I'm gonna go sit down for a bit Jenna, I'm really sorry, you guys are on your own."

"No problem Harper" she answered sweetly.

I lounged in bed for a better part of the morning. I felt guilty for not being in the kitchen, but the cramps were keeping me rather busy. It wasn't until I felt a warm gush between my legs that I started to panic. I jumped out of bed but was assaulted by another cramp making me double over. Luckily one of Gabe's men walked in at that very moment, looked at me in horror and ran out to get Gabriel. An overwhelming urge to throw up overcame me as my mouth started to salivate. I tried as best as I could to get to the bathroom and noticed the huge pool of blood on the corner of the bed. Panic rose up like the bile at the back of my throat.
