OUR TEACHER DISMISSED our class early today because of a sudden faculty meeting so I figured I'd read.

I'm trying to enjoy the story about humans, fallen angels, and Nephilim, but I can't because Maddox keeps bugging me!

He relentlessly pokes my waist, my arms, and even my cheeks. He has also tried taking my book away from me twice now. And when that doesn't work, he retorts to tickling me which results in my ugly guffawing. It's actually quite annoying, but every time I see his grinning face, my irritation dissolves and I end up laughing.

Gah! I hate him!

"Maddox!" I exclaim in my seat when he yanks my book away from me yet again and hides it behind him.

I make a move to grab it from him but he just winks at me before throwing my book across the room which Jaxon catches effortlessly with a smirk on his face.

These maniacs! I can't believe they're working together against me!

I gape at Maddox who's grinning from ear to ear, looking as if he just won. I let out a harsh breath while shaking my head at him before standing up in my seat.

My butt hasn't even left my chair for more than five seconds before a hand grips my wrist and yanks me back down.

I swiftly turn to Maddox. "What is up with you, you maniac?! Let me get my book!"

"No!" he answers like a kid. Is this guy really 18 or what?!

I look at him, confused. "What do you mean 'no'?!"

"No," he repeats which makes me glare at him. "It's not even a good book, Sel!"

"How can you say that? You haven't read it!" I argue.

"C'mon, Sel," Maddox says in a pleading voice. "Don't get it. Don't read."

"I'm getting my book and I'm not talking to you," I tell him out of indignation while rolling my eyes.

Before I could even move to get up again, Maddox quickly pulls my chair closer to his until both our seats were touching. My breath hitches in my throat when he secures his arms around me and rests his chin on my shoulder. "See! That's why I don't want you to get your book. If you start reading again, you won't pay attention to me!" he complains.

Uh... huh? W-What?

I could only keep quiet in my place as my mind processes the words he said.

"If you start reading again, you won't pay attention to me!"

When I have finally grasped his words and made sense of our situation, my face turns red and I have to look away because I can't help myself from smiling.

"I-I'm—" I couldn't form a proper sentence! My mind has gone blank and my mouth can't get a word out.

"Ooh," Adeline Aoun, my Lebanese friend who sits in front of me, teases as a smirk makes its way to her face. "Sia's flustered!"

Upon hearing that, Maddox tilts his head to the side to get a good look at me and a smirk forms on his lips. "Is that so?"

I become uneasy under his gaze so break away from his hug and look away.

"Would you quit that?!" I hiss at him when I turned my head and saw that his expression hasn't changed. He's still staring at me with that handsome smirk of his!

"Why?" he moves even closer to me. I move back. "Does it bother you?"

"Good morning, Destiny."
