They pass Sam some stuff, and sit down as Dean opens a box, "Okay I got a pretty good look at his tattoo. It's something like this." Charlie says as she passes Dean a drawing of the tattoo.

He looks at it, and so does Calliope, "The douche clan. Got it" Dean says putting the drawing down, "Well, this is everything the Men of Letters had on occult families, so should be something in here" Dean tells Charlie, as he and Calliope start taking files out.
Charlie gives them a thumbs up, "Sam got anything?" she then asks, as Sam was in the other room.

"Maybe, yeah. It's all obscure Sumerian dialect. I actually found a rough match for it in this book" he tells her holding a book up to show her.
"Great" Charlie says as she walks over to Sam.

"I thought so too, but I've been translating. But none of the translated words make any sense. It's all just gibberish" he says showing Charlie. "I mean, maybe it's in a different dialect?" he suggests.
Charlie looks at it, "No, no, no, you're right, but I think---I think this is in code" she tells Sam.
"An entire book of unreadable text that's also in code. Great." Sam sighs.

"And you call yourselves nerds" Dean calls out to them, "Come on, you got this"
"He's right. Let's get our Alan Turing on. Decrypt this bitch" Charlie says looking at Sam. Sam looks over at Dean, who was starting to stare at the Book of the Damned very intently, and Dean looks away.

"You know what, Charlie? Why--? Um...why don't we stick with my notes for a little bit? This book is literally making my eyes hurt" he tells her as he puts the book inside the box, they had brought in.
The four of them get working what they had so far, and Dean eventually finds a file that matches the symbol Charlie had shown him. Charlie then closes her laptop, "Okay, even the Bletchley Circle couldn't crack this thing. I've tried every cryptographic algorithm there is. Goose egg" Charlie says to Dean and Calliope.

"Well, maybe that's not such a bad thing" Dean then comments as he looks up from the file, he had open. "Those people following you, hmm..." he says showing the tattoo, "all kinds of wrong, talking, multi-generational, centuries-old wrong. The Styne family. Men of Letter's files have them dated back to the early 1800's." he says getting up and handing Charlie the file, "they used spells to create disease, to destabilize markets. Hell, they even helped the Nazis before they came into power." Dean goes on to say as Calliope and him head to the kitchen area, and Sam sits down beside Charlie.

"And the family all profited from what they did" Calliope adds as she pours herself and Dean a drink.
"So, they're like the supernatural DuPonts?" Charlie asks as her and Sam look at the file.
"Basically" Dean says to her.
"Every spell that they used it came from a book of unspeakable evil. Which they apparently lost nearly 100 years ago." Calliope says to them.

"Okay, so they're bad. So what? We've faced worse" Sam says to the two of them.
"Sam, read the file" Dean says as they come back over, "The way the book works is, when you use it, there is a negative reaction. I'm talking biblical negative. Dark magic always comes with a price. We know that. We've been down that road before" Dean says to Sam, as Calliope sits down beside Charlie.

"Well, let's at least translate it, see what it says—" Charlie says to him.
"You guys don't understand" Dean cuts her off, "The books been calling out to me ever since I laid eyes on it. Calling out to the Mark. I can hear it like it's alive. It wants me to use it, but not for good. Look, I wanted it to be the answer too, okay? I really did. But we have got to get rid of that. Burn it, bury it I don't give a damn. We'll just have to find another way to fix the Mark" Dean says looking at them.

"Like what?" Sam asks him.
"I don't know" Dean says to him.
"So, what, you're giving up?" Calliope then asks.
"No, I'm not giving up. Callie, I don't have a death wish. Okay? Even if I did, I can't die. Not with this thing on my arm. But what I can do is, I can fight it as long as I can until—" he stops.
