"I want to ruin our friendship let's be lovers instead"
•••
The morning after the party Cass only had one thing on her mind- she needs to talk to James. But she couldn't get James alone. What would her excuse be to talk to just James?
Cass's hair was still straight from the night prior so she got to sleep in a little bit. She made her way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. It's a tradition for the Black siblings to sit together for breakfast every single day, until fifth year when Regulus stopped to keep his "cover".
This year Cass was shocked to see him tiredly munching on toast with Remus Lupin at the Gryffindor table.
As Cass sat down she was greeted by two tired boys.
"Where are the others?" Cass asked.
"They are still deciding on what to wear." Remus told her.
"But we are in uniforms." Cass said
"Yes, but 'James does this tie match my socks?'"
While Cass was laughing she didn't notice the other walk in.
"What's so funny?" James asked her.
How could he be so calm? How could he talk to her normally after what happened?
"Just making fun of you three." Regulus piped in.
Cass made little to no eye contact with James, she wouldn't know what she'd end up saying if she looked him in the eyes. So right after she swallowed her last spoonful of oatmeal she was standing up to leave.
"Why are you getting up classes don't start for-" Sirius stopped for a second to look at his watch, "thirty minutes."
"I have potions first and wanted to talk to Sluggy about extra lessons this year so I won't be as rubbish." Cass told them all already halfway out of the Great Hall.
This wasn't completely a lie, she is rubbish at potions and wants to get better but she was just going to ask Lily for extra help but Cass hates lying, especially to her brothers. So as Cass opened the door into the class room she was shocked to find that Slughorn wasn't there, but Pandora Lestrange was working in a potion. This was a very peculiar sight to see because Pandora exceeded at potions, she had top marks in potions their year since their first year.
"If your looking for Slughorn he's not here, he doesn't get here five minutes before class starts." Pandora said turning around to see Cass.
"Oh well that's okay, I'll just come back later then." That wasn't technically a lie, she would come back to this class room but not to ask Slughorn about something.
Once potions started Cass got seated next to Pandora. Cass has never really spoken to Pandora before, their cousins got married but they were both disowned before that, so they didn't attend.
It was only the first day and Cass already dreaded going to her classes. She couldn't learn with James on her mind. So during her free period she decided to walk the halls to try to clear her head that's when she runs into the one person she really didn't want to see. James Potter.
"Oh hey Cass." He said while putting a piece of old looking parchment in his pocket, "I've been meaning to talk to you."
"Actually me too."
"You can go first." James said looking a little nervous.
Cass didn't know how to put what she wanted to say into words but she did try, "I just erm wanted to say that I uh, well it's not that i'm well mad or anything, but you know because of my brother and stuff. I was just really shocked and didn't uh really know what to sa-" James cut her off.
"Cass I can't understand a word your saying." He told her.
"Well can I show you?" She asked just as he did not even twenty four hours ago.
And just like Cass, James also didn't have much common sense and couldn't put two and two together.
"Uh sure."
She then kissed him the second those words came out of her mouth. It was like it should have been the night prior.
Once the kiss was over they just looked at each other not knowing what to say until a few moments later, at the same time they said,
"Sirius can't know."
"I think he'd actually kill me if he found out I kissed you." James told her after they both said he can't know.
"I don't think he'd take it well. But we could always do it in secret. We can meet somewhere and he'd never know. 'Cause James, I like you and I want to try to make this work. But I don't want it to ruin our friends ship- so just say the word and we can just forget about it."
"Cassiopeia Luna Black," she cringed at her full name, "I like you too and I don't want to forget. Even if being with you means I have to hide it from my best friend, it will be worth it."
Cass has never felt happier.
"Do you know where the Room of Requirement is James?"
"Yes." He said wondering what this would lead to.
"Every Thursday at 6 meet there." And with that she walked away very content with the conversation that just happened.

Cass decided to sit with the Gryffindors for dinner that night. This is not an unusual thing. No one at Hogwarts found this unusual. Conversation went on as normal. But one very unusual thing happened. Cass was sitting between Lily and James and in mind conversation James put his hand on Cass's thigh. She was the only one to notice but it still shocked her.
"Cass what were you saying? you kind of just stopped mine sentence." Lily said pulling her out fo her trance.
"Oh sorry I totally lost my train of thought."
And just like that conversation went on like normal and only two people in the Great Hall knew why Cass stoped mid sentence, the other person beside Cass liked knowing that he just made her stop mid sentence by one single touch.
