"Wouldn't we rather go outside?", Rose asks after a while and I look out. Outside the sun was shining and on the way there I noticed how warm it had become. "Sure, gladly", I sigh with a smile and line up with her at the same time. We quietly leave the house and go into the large forecourt.
"Paige, we're going for a walk. Would you like to come with us or wait here for Dad?", Rose asks her little sister, who stops playing to listen carefully to her. "I don't know where are you going?" She asked and looked up at us. Rose looks at me questioningly, but I just shrug my shoulders helplessly. "Maybe around the lake or along the forest path. It's nice today," says Rose, but the sister immediately lowers her gaze again. "No," she says quietly. "Okay then not." Rose walks slowly and I follow her.
"You haven't said anything about yourself today. How about you with a husband?" I ask with a smile. "Oh, I don't know. I'd actually like it, but all good men are at war," she explains shortly, but I just look at her in disbelief. "Well, not all of them." I tilt my head and she laughs. "You don't mean Poe, do you?" She bit her lip briefly. "Who else, all the others are not our men," I grin. "You have a lot of men there," she laughs again, but I sigh with a smile. "Oh, you know what I mean." I look back at the floor when I think about Poe again. "Yes, I know, I just want to annoy you. Well, Poe doesn't look bad. I don't know, because I'm not in complete contact with him either. Like you." Rose gently pushes me aside. "How about your husband?" She adds quickly and looks at me sideways. "Oh, he cheated on me and has two children. I guess I'm Single again." I shrug my shoulders and smile to hide my sadness. "I'm so sorry for you, really. Can you handle it, I mean, because you still live with Florille", she asks carefully, but I nod quickly. "Yes, yes, everything is great. I'll be fine. When the war is over, I'll move away," I explain quickly. "Yes, see the world a little bit and stuff like that," she agrees with me and gives a slight smile.
"But now that we're on a sad subject. I have to tell you something..." I keep getting quieter because I know how much this topic could affect her. She likes Poe as much as I do, but even if neither of them talked as much as friends always do, she really liked him.
"Yeah sure, what's it about?" Rose clears her throat softly. "It's... it's about Poe. He may be in trouble because of me," I admit, pressing my lips together in a thin line. "Because of you? I don't think so, what reason should you have for getting him into trouble?" She looks over at me questioningly "No, it wasn't on purpose. There was a note about Poe. My lieutenant received it, it said that Poe is a Jew and he forgot it outside in the garden. But I foolishly gave him that back and now he's threatening me. He wants to have him killed", I admit, but instead of her being really angry, as I expected, she sighs thoughtfully. "Can you somehow steal the note from him again?" Asks Rose thoughtfully, but I nod. "Yes, I almost forgot in panic. I should try this next, but what if it doesn't work?" I place my hand comfortingly on her shoulder. "Rey, we'll do this together. I'm trying to sort of clear up Poe about it, unless you want to come with me?", She suggests and we slowly come to a standstill.
"I would like to go with you, but-", I falter, male laughter from further afield attracted a questioning look on my face. Rose also looks at me confused and then around.
"Do you hear that too?" I ask her and look around. She nods. "Yes, that comes from the lake, let's take a look," she prompts me and takes my hand.
From a little further on we came closer and closer to the lake and saw the many men who were swimming. "Oh god, let's not miss this." Rose pulls me closer behind a bush. "You only think their bodies are hot." I sarcastically tilt my head. "Of course, take a look at them." She points towards the lake and I see one emerge whose hair he immediately tosses back.
"Are they naked?" I ask in disgust and watch him as he hoisted himself out of the lake. My mouth fell open a little when I see his bare bottom and can't believe what is happening here.
"Let's go again. I don't feel comfortable seeing naked German soldiers swimming." I look away immediately. "Oh come on, you're only saying that because you saw your first lieutenant," she laughs softly, but my gaze wanders back immediately. "Where?" I ask her to tell me. "Back there, but I think it would be a lot more interesting to know where his clothes are." She points a little down the meadow with her gaze. "You never dare do that," I whisper and duck, because I actually knew that she would pull this off. "I'll bring it to you," she giggles and immediately starts walking.
