I sit restlessly with Rose at her dining table and wait for Poe to finally arrive. I knew that after this action I would definitely lose him as a friend, but in this case his safety came first. Besides, we weren't even sure if he would come at all.
"Did you get in trouble because of the clothes?" Chop up Rose to loosen up the mood. "Well, Florille thinks something's going on now, Ben was quite beside himself, but my great-aunt thought it was funny." I explain and smile. "If I rode you into something, I'm so so-" She wants to apologize, but I start to smile. "Oh God no, you should have seen his face. And only the clothes he was wearing, it was worth it for just looking at him." I calm her down and she has to smile right away.
There was a quiet knock three times on the door and we both look at her at the same time. "Yes?" Rose called expectantly and with a sigh, Poe steps in, you could see clearly that he really didn't want this at all. "I'm here." He crosses his arms and looks at the ground. "Maybe you want to sit down with us?" I propose and he gives in, he nods. He sits down on a chair next to us and leans back so that he can follow us in peace.
"So," I clear my throat and lean forward. "I think I screwed up." I admit quietly. "Yes, apparently that is nothing new, of course." He's making fun of myself, but Rose and I are serious. "No, this time more than usual." I look down ashamed.
"Have you already told Rose or why is she here?" He asks me, but Rose answers first. "Yeah, I know and that's the problem for all of us from now on. You're my best friend too, but that... turned out to be shit." She softly adds the last sentence and I laugh sarcastically. "Yeah, shit was probably not the right word for it. The whole thing is cursed." I snap, but she stays calm. "Calm down, we'll find a solution." She puts her hand on my shoulder.
"Damn what's going on?!" Poe now objects again. "Ben knows." I answer briefly and hear his heavy swallowing. "What?" He asks more hotly, as if suddenly his voice was missing. "I'm so sorry I could have prevented it. It was all my fault. My anger drowned out my sanity." I confess and he takes a deep breath to find peace. "But he doesn't have any evidence of that, does he?" He continues to hack to find a solution for himself and this special situation. "Yes, but even if he didn't have that, they'll believe him. He told me. He's a first lieutenant in the war, he's always right." I tell and, desperate, Rose looks around. "I'm sure we can find a solution." She tries to give us confidence. "Would he seriously betray you like that?" He looks at me now darkly as if he wanted to attack me personally. "What is that supposed to mean now? I would trust him to do that, wouldn't you?" I hiss and don't let my dark gaze slide from him. "You two have looked a little too familiar to me lately, or am I wrong?" He tilts his head and starts smiling.
"Please don't argue, let's find a solution." Rose throws in loudly and I nod before leaning back calmly in the chair. "She's right, I mean, it's not too late. He hasn't even submitted the slip, does anyone have a suggestion?" I sigh.
"I have to get out of here." Poe says barely audible. "What?" Rose asks rather confused, because I was sure she understood. "I have to go, get out of here before he finds me and kills me." He repeats. "Wait a minute, don't you think you decided a little too early and too impulsively?" I chop up and look at Rose, who agrees with me with her look. "No, you just don't understand, you haven't experienced him the way I did. I'm so incredibly scared and if I have to look him in the eye one last time, I swear it will be my last time. He wants to see me dead, since the first day. " He tries to make it clear for us, but I still didn't agree with him. "Poe, I'm sure you can stay somewhere else for so long. He wouldn't find you." I suggest and Rose immediately nods. "Yes, of course, you can live under the roof of the barn for as long." She smiles at him, hoping to convince him that way. "No, my decision is made, I'll go. As soon as possible." He now realizes and I sigh relentlessly. "Then I'll come with you." I say calmly. "You can't go with me." Poe looks at me questioningly from the side. "Yes, it's all my fault, so I'll come with you and help you. We'll take Florille's car and drive away as soon as possible." I explain, but I didn't give him any other option than to nod. I would come with him anyway.
"But we don't have a driver license, and where do we want to go then?" He chops, but if I could only smile and shrug my shoulders.
