Chapter Twenty Two: The Angel's Gift

Marcus Libertad, Eivor Conditor, Jane Cannon, Rachel Medicus and Carl Lau were all inside of Doctor Brian Wilson's laboratory and staring right at a film reel of him on the wall. Doctor Wilson had completely white hair and a short beard. He was wearing a lab coat and thick glasses. Doctor Wilson was staring right at the camera lense, to the kids it looked like he was looking right at them. Wilson said welcomingly "Good morning, or afternoon, or evening, or whatever time of day it is. My name is Doctor Brian Kirk Wilson, I am a Radiobiologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. If you are watching this then I assume that you know about HJ-38, better known as the Demon's Death and you seek to destroy it". The kids all said in unison "Yes". Doctor Wilson then said "If you don't know about it and have just happened to find my lab then I will explain to you now". Eivor asked Marcus "We already know this, could you fast forward it?" Marcus disappointingly said "We can't, it's not that kind of camera". Doctor Wilson bought out a map of Ukraine on the board behind him, that was likely the computer screen next to where the film was being broadcasted on, pointed his finger at it and said "This is Ukraine, an Eastern European nation that has a dark history. In the year 1977 a Nuclear power plant was constructed here in Chernobyl". Wilson then said "Barely nine years later something went horribly wrong and the reactor melted down. Atomic Radiation flooded the city and now just being in the city can cause serious damage to the human body. Estimates show that the city will not be safe for 10,000 years". The kids all gasped with shock and horror. Marcus said with shock in his voice "Man, I knew Chernobyl wasn't gonna be safe for a while, but that is ridiculous!"

Doctor Wilson said "The President at the time was Ronald Reagan, after the disaster he grew fearful of what would happen if any more radiation leaks took place. At first he wanted every nuclear power plant in America decommissioned and scrapped for parts. But that would've bankrupted the whole country! So he enacted the Chernobyl Project, a top secret Operation headed by the Department of Health to develop a formula that would grant people with immunity to the effects of radiation. Not only that but if the person it would affect was suffering from radiation poisoning then it would fix that and form a protective layer around all of the cells in the body that prevent radiation from harming it". Marcus then said "But....?" Wilson continued with "But however we could not limit it to what KIND of radiation it protected the body from". Wilson then bought up two images, one of the sun and the other of the human body. Wilson got out a long stick and started pointing at both images with it. Doctor Wilson said "As you probably already know, the sun's rays provide the human body with Vitamin D. An important Vitamin that regulates the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. HJ-38 does protect people from nuclear radiation yes, but it also prevents the Vitamin D that the sun's rays provide from reaching them". Marcus said sadly "We all know how this ends". Doctor Wilson proceeded to say "HJ-38 creates a layer around each and every cell in the body that prevents any Vitamin D from reaching them. This alone would cause many life threatening illnesses in the body that originate from a lack of Vitamin D and causes death within a few years. On top of that, it also destroys all of the Vitamin D present in the body and I mean all of it!" Wilson placed the stick on a table that was obviously the one next to the projector and said "The human body cannot handle the sudden complete loss of Vitamin D and the person dies within minutes. We spent years trying to perfect it, I eventually realised that HJ-38 could be used as a lethal weapon! So when President George H Bush was elected I convinced him of the unethical practices of the Project and he shut it down".

Jane and Carl both said in unison "Oh thank God. JINX!" Wilson then said "The Chernobyl Project was shut down on June 28th 2001, but a few samples of HJ-38 were kept in storage should we ever find a way to perfect it, but I fear that it could be turned into a weapon should it fall into the wrong hands, that is why I created this". Wilson then bought out a canister, like the one that the Freedom Democracy League had found in the trucks they stole and said "Behold, the Angel's Gift". He placed it on the table next to him and said "The Angel's Gift breaks apart the HJ-38 cells completely, rendering it completely destroyed. I've also added a failsafe that destroys it after twenty minutes of deployment to ensure that it doesn't mutate and do anything else. I have already theorised that HJ-38 could be made into a gas, so I have created more than one hundred canisters filled to the brim with the Angel's Gift. If someone evil out there has made HJ-38 into a gas, take the Angel's gift and use it to stop this at once. I have placed it into a safe behind the wall that this projector is projecting this image onto, the wall has circuitry inside that will make it open up once this broadcast is complete. HJ-38, or the Demon's Death as the others call it, was the biggest mistake of my entire career, please, don't let the world pay for my mistake". The projector then switched off and the film stopped. All of a sudden sounds of gears spinning and circuitry buzzing was heard by the team and the wall opened up like two double doors. Behind it was a very large safe with a no lock, just a handle to open it up. Jane stepped forward and gripped the lever with her hand. Marcus jokingly said "Pull the lever Jane". Jane did just that and pulled open the safe door. Inside the safe was over one hundred canisters of the Angel's Gift and a note that had the formula. The five rebel kids looked at it with astonishment, they were silent for twelve long seconds before Marcus bought out his walkie talkie and called Ryan. Ryan answered and Marcus said "Ryan, get those trucks we found at the old warehouse in the docks. We've got a lot of heavy lifting to do".

Two hours after these events, three of the five trucks that the Freedom Democracy League had seized from ArmTech were parked in front of the main building of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and about twenty five kids were loading the Angel's Gift into them. There were 150 canisters in total and each truck could contain about fifty. Understandable because each crate had about fifty canisters inside. Four teenage boys were around the third crate and getting ready to load it into the truck. Ryan was next to the truck and asked them "Ready fellas?" They all nodded and one of them said "One, Two, Three!" The four of them lifted the crate into the truck with their bare hands. It was exhausting, but at least the Angel's Gift had been loaded into the trucks. The kids closed up the trucks and all got inside of them. Marcus was in the leading truck and most of the kids were in the bus they had come in. They drove back to the North Village, which took about twenty minutes. After the trucks were parked they all got out and Marcus said "Good job everyone". Marcus opened the back door of the truck he had driven in to reveal fifty blue canisters of the Angel's Gift. Marcus said to everyone around the trucks "I need two people to put on those Hazmat suits we found in the trucks and place the Demon's Death over by that tree". Marcus pointed at a few trees by the Mess Area that were thick with leaves. Ryan and Rachel walked over to one of the trucks and pulled out two hazmat suits. Marcus and Eivor had to help put them on and they were a bit bigger than Ryan and Rachel. After they were put on they went to the truck that had the Demon's Death in it. There were ten kids around it, armed with the rifles that the F.D.L had stolen on one of their numerous gun heists. They opened the truck door and inside was the F.D.L's sole container of the Demon's Death. The sample was carefully carried by the two of them and they took it all the way to the trees Marcus had pointed at. Marcus and thirty other kids were at some picnic tables, two hundred yards away from the trees. Ryan and Rachel were by the trees with the sample and carefully placed it upright on the ground. Marcus activated the megaphone he was holding and said through it "Only release a little bit, We don't want anyone to get hurt".

Rachel and Ryan quickly opened the canister and closed it up again. A gas cloud twice the size of a human head came out and covered the tree it was under. It attacked the tree with a red mist and the leaves began to bleed red. The leaves all went red like blood and the tree started to shrivel up. Marcus shouted through the megaphone "Now let's test the Angel's Gift". Rachel was holding a canister of the Angel's Gift in her left hand, she opened it up and then closed it up again. A blue gas cloud the size of a head came out and defended the tree from the Demon's Death. It covered the tree and charged at the red terror that was murdering it. The Demon's Death was quickly destroyed and the leaves turned green again. The tree stopped shrivelling and the red parts no longer bled red. The kids burst into cheer at the good news that the Angel's Gift was effective at stopping the Demon's Death and that they now had what they needed to stop ArmTech from selling the Demon's Death to the highest bidders. Rachel and Ryan came back to the picnic tables as Marcus got up on top of one of the tables and said "Listen up, it is time for us to make our plane of attack. On April 20th ArmTech is gonna export the Demon's Death to their buyers via AI controlled boats and we are gonna take them down with the missiles we stole from ArmTech. Eivor got up on the table and said "The missiles will be loaded with the Angel's Gift, so that the Demon's Death will be destroyed. The only problem is that ArmTech recently set up a missile defence gun at the Providence Port, so we have to disable it first". Marcus then said "Me, Eivor, Ryan, Codes and Jane will go undercover as interns and disable the missile defence gun, allowing our guys on the rooftop at our Providence safehouse to shoot down the boats when they're far enough away from Providence". One of the kids put his hand up and asked "Just where are you going to get the uniforms and the identification cards?" Marcus sneakily said "We'll get them for a certain Internal Agent". So began Operation Angel's Gift.
