Chapter Forty Four: Corporate War

June 18th 2061

Chadwick Messenger had been a news anchor for the Global News Network for twenty years. He was now in his sixties and was nearing retirement. His grandson Jeremy, looked up to him and was hoping to get a job as a photographer for the G.N.N when he grew up. Chadwick's own son James, worked as a photographer as well and was teaching Jeremy how to use a camera. Chadwick was in the broadcasting room and was sweating like he'd never sweat before. This was because he had just learned of what was going on in America, of how MegaCorp had fallen apart and what was left of it was now fighting amongst themselves for control.....literally. Chadwick wiped the sweat from his forehead and began talking as the broadcast began. With shock in his voice, Chadwick said to the camera "Good afternoon, I'm Chadwick Messenger and this is the Global News Network. It is with great sadness that I report that America has just joined the fraternity of nations, whose only entry requirement is to be plunged into war. Three days ago, MegaCorp CEO, Alvin Avarus, was assassinated during a speech regarding MegaCorp's new security drones". The screen behind him showed images of MegaCorp and men in suits arguing with each other. Chadwick then explained "Avarus's own son is still studying economics at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, so he could not inherit the company until he graduated. The board of directors then entered a debate on who should run the company till then. Unfortunately they could not decide and a power struggle ensued. Various branches and offices of MegaCorp sided with certain executives and started squabbling over who should lead the company". The screen behind him then changed to show and office building in New York on fire and MegaCorp grunts fighting not Anti-Corporate rebels, but each other! Chadwick then explained "Just last night at eight fourteen PM, a MegaCorp PMC that had sided with Executive Albert Krieger attacked a MegaCorp shell company and declared it property of the "Krieger Corporation". Albert Krieger then announced that he would fight for control of MegaCorp and declared war on the other offshoots of MegaCorp just this morning at seven fifty eight AM". 

Images of MegaCorp grunts fighting each other in the streets appeared on the screen as Chadwick said "MegaCorp has now completely collapsed into over a dozen offshoots and those offshoots are now fighting each other for control of America and countless battles are breaking out all over the country. We now go live to Detroit Michigan". The broadcast then changed to live footage in Detroit Michigan, where two offshoots of MegaCorp, Ambitiosus Industries and FacinusCo, were fighting each other for control of the city. Natasha Wolf was at the scene and had body armour on. She and her camera man were at the G.N.N office in Detroit and were on the top floor of the building. Several neighbouring buildings were on fire and Corporate grunts were fighting in the streets with each other. Natasha finished strapping her body armour on and frantically said "This is Natasha Wolf reporting live from Detroit Michigan, where Ambitiosus Industries and FacinusCo have gone into all out war with each other. PMC's that have sided with them are fighting each other in the streets and attempting to take control of properties owned by one another. Citizens in the streets are being forcibly taken by both sides to fight for them and the rebel group known as the Continental American Militia, has begun fighting against the Corpos". A building across the street then exploded into flames and Natasha jumped in shock. With shock in her voice, Natasha said "God almighty! This country is going to war with itself!" Natasha then looked back at the camera and said "The Government has condemned the violence and has sent in the United States Army to restore order. The military is now fighting in the streets against Corporate grunts". The camera man then bought the camera to the window and in view of the streets below. On one end of the street, there was a FacinusCo platoon set up in a barricade and a Ambitiosus Industries platoon on the other end shooting bullets at each other. That was when a FacinusCo PMC tank appeared and shot explosive shells at the Ambitiosus Industries PMC across the street. The camera man turned the camera back at Natasha as she pleaded "Fighting just like this has broken out all over America, to the American people, I urge you to stay in your homes and not come out until-". That was when the door to the floor below them flew open and a FacinusCo grunt shot Natasha in the arm. Natasha screamed as she fell to the floor and her camera man turned the camera towards the PMC grunts in the doorway. The head grunt looked at the camera and said "This building and this city, are now property of FacinusCo, have a nice life working for us". He then shot into the camera and the screen went static. 

The broadcast turned back to Chadwick, who was shocked with horror and his mouth was wide open. Chadwick breathed frantically and asked "God almighty, did you see that? Can you try and get her back?" One of the studio crew said with horror in her voice "No, I don't think so". Chadwick then cleared his throat and said into the camera "As you can all see our own reporter has just become another casualty of the fighting in America, countless other battles like the one you just witnessed are occurring in all fifty states and several hundred casualties have already been reported". The screen behind Chadwick changed to show Continental American Militia soldiers waving a version of the Star Spangled Banner that had all the stars in the shape of a star, fighting against Corp grunts in the streets as Chadwick explained "The right wing Continental American Militia, who have stated that American traditions are under attack by the corporations, declared that they would fight to protect the constitutional rights of the American people and began actively fighting against Corporate grunts in the streets". The screen changed to then show an image of the American Avengers being led by Colonel Joe Amerigo into battle. Joe was a Caucasian man and was wearing U.S Army tactical gear that had been painted red, white and blue and had an A tattooed on his right cheek. Chadwick then explained "The American Avengers have also been reported to have been fighting against Corporate forces throughout America, this centrist organisation has vowed to "avenge the true America and tear down the corporate America. The groups leader took inspiration from popular Marvel hero Captain America and many comparisons have been drawn up between him and the fictional character". The screen behind Chadwick then changed to show protesters waving the Freedom Banner of Democracy in a protest that had occurred a year earlier and Chadwick said "As of right now it is unknown if the famous left wing group known as the Freedom Democracy League will begin fighting against the MegaCorp off shoots, but in my personal opinion, they're gonna declare war in no time". Little did Chadwick know that he was right and that the Freedom Democracy League, American Continental Militia and the American Avengers were all going to have a meeting in two days time. Originally this meeting was going to be about what they would do now that Alvin Avarus was dead, but now it was going to be about their plans on how to win the Second American Civil War. These plans of course would start with the one thing the New England states threatened to do during the War of 1812: Secession.
