Chapter Thirty Eight: News Flash

March 14th 2051

Chadwick Messenger was the top news anchor for the Global News Network and was a well known man across the world. His career had gone on for ten years now and his family were very proud of him. He often reported on events that took place across the world, such as elections and events in the political arena. But now he was going to report about an insurgent attack in New York by the group known as the Freedom Democracy League. He was sitting in the broadcast room, just finishing washing his hands with a wet paper towel when the broadcast began. Chadwick quickly put the wet paper towel in the bin below the desk and said "Good morning and welcome. I'm Chadwick Messenger and today we are reporting on the attack in New York". An image of MegaCon 2051 appeared on the screen behind him as he said "MegaCon 2051 was attacked by the group known as the Freedom Democracy League, they revealed that Barry Brothering and over two dozen other conspirators had rigged MegaCorp's latest product to spy on the people and broadcast subliminals that would make them loyal to MegaCorp. The F.D.L rebels revealed themselves at the event and we finally got to learn the name of their leader, M.L". An image of M.L aiming his gun at Brothering while on the stage appeared on the screen as Chadwick explained "As it turns out, M.L's real name is Marcus Libertad. What's more shocking, is that he's twenty six! Not just that, but the F.D.L was started up by about twenty children who ran away from troubled homes! This has proven extremely shocking to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Global Police Force, who both believed that Marcus was a man in his early forties by now. What's more is, when he revealed who he was, he also revealed that he ran away because he was abused by his mother and step-father". An image of Karen and Albert being arrested by the police appeared on the screen as Chadwick said "Using a device they stole from MegaCorp, the League scanned Marcus's memories and showed the world what had been done to him. The police appeared immediately after the rebels escaped in their vehicles and arrested them for their crimes".

Two new images then appeared on the screen behind him, one was of a Chinese military officer being arrested and the other was the symbol of the Democratic Asian Coalition. Chadwick then said "The Freedom Democracy League had broken into a MegaCorp office in Philadelphia and reprogrammed the mainframe to have the products broadcast the evidence of MegaCorp's deceit and they also stole evidence that reveals MegaCorp's research department's involvement in a war conspiracy. As it would turn out, the research department had developed a power cell that was meant to be used to power an entire city for a long time without having to be powered up again. But the head of the department had chosen to use it to create a new type of nuclear warhead that would kill all the people in a city, but not destroy the infrastructure. He was planning on selling it to General Chao of the Chinese Army, who was planning a coup so that he could use this weapon on the Democratic Asian Coalition, an alliance in South Asia, composed of nations with Democratic governments".

A new image appeared on the screen and it was of a delivery truck owned by Jim and Sons Delivery Company. Chadwick then explained "The League had placed the data onto a flash drive and sent it to the Chinese government, who immediately had General Chao arrested and had him set for trial". An image of Marcus Libertad on the stage at MegaCon 2051 appeared on the screen as Chadwick said "At MegaCon 2051, Marcus revealed evidence that his younger sister Julia had undergone similar abuse since he ran away. He expressed regret that he had not taken her with him, but announced that a team had been sent to collect her". The screen changed to have an image of a penthouse on fire on it as Chadwick said "Not long after the attack in Times Square, an explosion took place at Marcus's former residence downtown and the police later found out that the League had taken Julia and blown up the penthouse. Her whereabouts are unknown, but the F.B.I has launched an investigation, coinciding with the Government's announcement that the Freedom Democracy League has been classified as a terrorist group". As he explained this, the images changed to a politician making the announcement at the U.S Capitol building. Chadwick then said "The government has announced that the F.B.I will begin an immediate manhunt for the Freedom Democracy League and its confirmed leaders. Those leaders being Marcus Libertad and his second in command, a woman currently known simply as Eivor". The screen then changed to reveal protesters waving a flag that had a blue top half, a red bottom half and a white star. Chadwick then explained "The Freedom Democracy League was able to send thousands of copies of their flag to addresses all over New York, along with letters explaining their ideology and the meaning of the flag. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has warned that anyone displaying the Freedom Banner of Democracy will be arrested immediately. Despite this, the flag has already been displayed at numerous protests throughout New York and the rest of the country as people have started making their own copies". An image of Karen Krieger, Albert Krieger and Barry Brothering in prison uniforms then appeared on the screen as Chadwick said "Barry Brothering is expected to serve a twenty year prison sentence for his crimes and Marcus's parents will be serving five years for child abuse. But many critics have demanded that they be put in for longer, as they believe that five years isn't enough". An image of Marcus then appeared on the screen as Chadwick said "Before taking his leave, Marcus made an impassioned speech about how all MegaCorp wants to do was roll over everyone and ensure a better life for themselves, at the expense of everyone else. He called them "Egotistics" in a reference to their huge egos. He said that the government were little more but MegaCorp's lackeys and that they are "Scardies" as he called them. He then referred to the Freedom Democracy League as "Dreamers" saying that they simply want to make the world a better place for everyone". The screen changed to show an image of protesters at MegaCorp HQ in Washington City as Chadwick said "Moved by Libertad's impassioned speech, over twenty thousand people, most of which affiliated with Communist Party USA, rallied at MegaCorp HQ in D.C to protest. We now go live to MegaCorp HQ". At MegaCorp HQ there were thousands of protesters holding signs that said things like "Corporatism is BAD!", "Freedom is PATRIOTIC!" and MegaCorp, ENEMIES OF FREEDOM!!!" All of them were angrily booing and chanting "Democracy Prevails!" at the 150 floor building and the people inside. Reporter Natasha Wolf was live at the scene and said into the camera "We are here live at the protests in D.C, where Corporate security are struggling to hold back the thousands of angry protesters". That was when she heard someone say "Hey, isn't that Jack Pratt?" Natasha turned around and was shocked to see legendary actor Jack Pratt, a stern anti-corporate activist who had moved to Canada with his family when the Corpos took over.

Natasha and her cameraman quickly rushed to the famous actor to ask him the reason for his arrival. Many other reporters did the same and quickly started asking question after question. The thirty nine year old actor, who had a beard very much like his father's, raised his hands to signal them into quieting down and said "One at at a time please, let's start with the reporter for the Global News Network". Natasha stepped forward and asked "Mr Pratt, when you left America, your father said that the Corpos would one day cause America's downfall, do you hold that same belief?" Jack thought for a moment and said "Yes, my Dad was right. MegaCorp, ArmTech, Gapple, all of those big ultra rich corporations have brought America to her knees. Using the fraud politicians who they fund, they have passed laws into power that allow them to make their employees work unnecessarily long hours each day, allow them to not pay them for five years straight and allow them to roll over everyone without a government trying to stop them". One reporter then asked "What do you think of the protests?" Jack answered with "Protesting is a good start to stopping the Corpos, but it's not enough. We must take radical action against the FASCISTS of our planet. Bring it down! Bring it all down!" The protesters cheered at Jack's statement and started chanting "Bring it down!" at the top of their lungs. Natasha turned to the camera and said "Well there you have it folks, even Collywood actors are opposed to the Corporate rule in America. Who knows what effect this will have on the growing Anti-Corporate protest movement". The broadcast turned back to Chadwick, who said with uncertainty "Would you look at that, a famous actor is also opposed to MegaCorp. This may have a monumental effect on the Anti-Corporate sentiment that is growing throughout the United States and may lead to further protests in the weeks to come. In the meantime the world wants to deal with dangerous individuals, their own way". With that the broadcast came to an end and the credits began to roll, leaving the people in their homes to ponder on the events they had just witnessed on live tv. Not only had the Freedom Democracy League leaders caused a massive protest, but a Collywood(Canadian Hollywood) actor had taken part in the protest! While they were left to ponder on these events, the Freedom Democracy League was getting ready to shield themselves from the eyes of the world with Project Plain Sight. Once that was on, NOTHING would stop them from recruiting as many people as they liked.
