Aspen didn't realize she was in front of Scott's doorstep until the door swung open without her knocking. Relief showered his expression at the sight of Aspen. But his relief morphed to concern when he saw her puffy eyes that wouldn't meet his. Scotts hadn't even realized the early hours of the day. He knew his best friend held her sleep to the highest regard.
"I need somewhere to stay for a while," she murmured, her nose twitching at the sound of her scratchy throat.
Scott furrowed his brows, lowering his head slightly in hopes Aspen would meet his eyes. He placed a hand firmly on her shoulder before using his other hand to lift her chin. Her lips trembled, trying to conceal a cry, but it was muffled when Scott pulled her into his chest. She shook once, and Scott had to back up slightly to bring her into the house.
Scotts ran a hand down her back, his heart clenching trying to stay strong for her. He hated this feeling of not seeing what was going on with her. Truth be told, he was slightly angry that she kept so much from him and Stiles. But she didn't need to be yelled at right now. He was sure that was precisely what she was trying to escape from. Aspen gripped the back of his shirt, her face buried in his shoulder, hoping his scent would calm her down.
"It's okay, it's okay. I got you," he mumbled into her hair.
After she calmed herself, Scott offered to bring her some clothes to change into. Mellisa and herself are about the same stature, so he got her one of her pajama shorts and one of his t-shirts. Aspen was grateful to see Melissa still used the facial products she recommended and hoped the woman would be okay with her using them for the night.
Scott informed Aspen Melissa had a late shift and she would be home in the morning. Now the two sat opposite each other on the couch, the tv playing on a random channel. Wrapped up in a red throw blanket, sitting on the far side of the sofa, Aspen held a small bowl with a spoon stuffed into chocolate chip ice cream. The family knew that was her favorite, so Melissa made sure to buy it often, knowing Aspen would randomly come over and invade their fridge.
Aspen had just finished her spiel, now more so in annoyance than sadness now that she was dried of tears. It felt good to get this off her chest, especially to her best friend. She regretted not doing so in the very beginning. It would have saved her a lot of trouble.
"Okay, so, you think your dad might be alive, and he sent Mina here to...what exactly?" Scott asked around a mouthful of ice cream.
"I don't know yet, haven't really thought about it," she said with a low voice, averting Scott's eyes as she poked at her ice cream until it mixed with the sprinkles.
