With much convincing, Grandpa Sam allowed AspenAspen to go back to school the next morning. Melissa had prescribed her pills to numb the pain, but it was hardly effective as every time AspenAspen moved her fingers, they would ache. She did her best to brave a smile once Grandpa Sam let her drive to school, but once out of his view, she whimpered quietly, looking down at her shaking hands. They throbbed with every movement; she didn't know how she even managed to drive to school.

Once amid the busy school hallway, AspenAspen weaved through crowds of students on her way to her locker. Someone managed to slam into her shoulder, sending a shock through her whole arm until her hand began to sting again. She clung to the locker's lock, squeezing her eyes shut and biting her lower lip to conceal the whimper that threatened to escape throbbing throat. Maybe going back to school only a day after waking up wasn't the best idea.

"Aspen Veata."

The sudden snappy tone brought AspenAspen to turn her head. Lydia was standing next to her with pursed lips as she grasped her bag, waiting for a response.

"Lydia, Hi. Good morning." Aspen said softly, the powerful resonance of lockers being slammed and the laughing of students in the hall becoming more irritable by the second.

"Did you hear what happened last night?" By Lydia's foot tapping against the floor, AspenAspen could tell she was annoyed.

"N-no I--"

"Of course you wouldn't have known because you didn't answer your phone! Jackson and I were nearly attacked by this.....this thing. I don't even know what it was and when I decide to call someone with a soothing voice, you decide not to pick up! Then I am forced to listen to my mothers' drabble about taking a nap."

Lydia's words were quick as she used her hands to express her frustration.

"You think my voice is soothing?"

"Is that all you got from that? The point is, what were you doing that was so important that you couldn't answer urgent calls?"

Aspen put her hands up before she had to feel any more of Lydia Martin's wrath. "Sorry, I was in the hospital for a couple of days."

Lydia's face suddenly softened as she took a step back to examine Aspen's body for injuries to justify her statement.

"Why? What happened?" she asked.

"I passed out and hit my head. At least that's what Melissa--well, Mrs. McCall told me. I was apparently out for a while."

"Oh my god. Do you have a concussion?"

"A small one, but I couldn't stay there another day. Thought the quicker I get to my feet, the better."

Lydia nodded with a sly grin, clearly loving Aspen's commitment to come to school. "That's the spirit. Glad you're recovered. Now..." Aspen hadn't even noticed a cardboard box at Lydia's feet as she bent down to pick it up and drop it in Aspen's hand, making the brunette stagger in place from the weight. "being as we are Allison's only girlfriends in this school, it is our job to decorate her locker on her special day."
