After incessant asking, Aspen finally dropped the whole matter. Charlie swore she was okay despite her painful screaming at the pool. After making sure everyone was okay, Stiles found a flash drive on Gerard's keys that Allison had stolen from him.
The cold air nipped on Aspen's neck as she lowered her head with squinted eyes to decipher the writing on Stiles' laptop that was propped up on the hood of Melissa's car. They had plugged in the hard drive, but the bestiary was more challenging to understand than they thought.
"Is that even a language?" Stiles asked in annoyance, hands on his hips. Charlie stood next to him, her ring clad finger tapping excessively on her forearm. Something was definitely off, but Aspen slipped her eyes from her cousin and onto Scott as he spoke.
"How are we supposed to figure out what this thing is?'
"It's called a Kanima."
The four teens looked to their left to see Derek and Erica walking over to them. The Alpha skin went down a hue, and Aspen wished to mock him and milk the fact that she saved him again. She instead bit her young and shifted in place.
"Oh my god..." Aspen grumbled. Foreshadowing at its finest, Aspen thought, flashing back to the time where she saw the words Kanima on Stiles' monitor. That day changed her life.
For better or for worse? Yet to be decided.
Stiles and Scotts looked utterly annoyed with the fact that Derek was withholding such vital information. Tonight could have been completely avoided if he had only been less stubborn and shared his knowledge.
"You knew the whole time," Stiles said with pressed lips and a nod.
"No," Derek said, "only when it was confused by its own reflection."
"It doesn't know what it is," Scott realized aloud.
"Or who," Aspen added.
Stiles scoffed, "What else do you know?"
Derek quirked his shoulders. "Just stories. Rumors."
"But it's like us?" Scott pressed on, the urgency in his tone evident.
"It's a shapeshifter, yes. But it's--it's not right. It's like a..."
