The tousling wind whistled in Scott's ears as he sped down the dark, lonesome streets of Beacon Hills. The hour was late, and the only light came from Aspen's Volkswagen. The wheels scrambled over gravel, shaking the car more than Scott would have liked, considering the condition his friend was in in the back seat.

His soft eyes abandon the street ahead to catch a glimpse in the rearview mirror. With her head leaning against Charlie's shoulder, Aspen was breathing raggedly. Her body convulsed with every movement of the car, her eyelids heaving downward in an attempt to rest. But her body knew once she shut her eyes, it was likely she wouldn't wake up again.

Over the roaring engine, Charlie could hear Scott let out an exasperated breath, and the car excelled the original speed limit as he desperately wanted to get Aspen to the animal clinic. Aspen has already lost a significant amount of blood, but thankfully, Charlie was able to close the wound with some water healing or, as Charlie called it, "Aqua Heilung." Nevertheless, the loss of so much blood made her skin pale, and the one thing that worried Scott the most was Aspen's veins. Her veins burned a soft white anytime she used her power since her development, but now the veins in her left wrist were similar to a decaying shade. Derek's beta had no mercy when it came to maiming Aspen, never even regarding how the Elementalist showed her kindness when no one else did.

Aspen let in a deep intake of breath, bringing Charlie to look down at her cousin. She noticed her eyes clouding over like a white veil, something she's never encountered before. Once her breathing began to slow, panic rose in the blonde's chest as she shook her shoulder to wake her up. But Aspen stayed still. "Scott, she's not waking up," Charlie said in a panic-stricken tone.

Scott looked over his shoulder, eyes widening to see the dreadful state of his best friend. His hate for Derek only grew at that moment. Yes, the new Alpha turned other teens by manipulation, and he has told him already he would never help him. But now, Derek used one of his Betas to hurt Aspen, which did not settle well with him. This was different than just hurting strangers; Derek hurt someone Scott cared about. Someone he loved. Burning anger churned in Scott's stomach as he saw the animal clinic's lights in the distance and slammed on the accelerator. Charlie held Aspen with a firm grip and forced herself to stay upright as Scott made a sharp turn into the parking lot, the tires skidding to a rough stop. Scott didn't bother parking in a specific spot, and he killed the ignition immediately.

Charlie was already scrambling out from the backseat by the time Scott got to the door. He leaned into the car and hooked one of his arms under Aspen's knees while the other held her back. He adjusted himself, letting Aspen's head fall on his chest, and for a moment, all he could do was look down at her peaceful state. But from the way her eyes moved from under her lids, he could tell a storm was brewing in her head.
