|| your house, Friday, 3:30pm ||

I had just gotten home from school about an hour ago. I was sitting in my bedroom by the ledge of my window, staring outside at the big moving truck that was parked in the driveway next door. I watched as the door opened and saw men carrying boxes from the truck to inside the house.

"Hmm... looks like someone's finally moving in to that next door. I wonder who it is?" I thought to myself.

After the men got the last few boxes out of the truck, they shut the truck door. A few minutes later, a white SUV pulled in behind them. Two women exited the SUV and walked up to the movers.

"Oh, cool! Looks like those are my new neighbors. Hmm, I guess they're signing papers and stuff so they can finish moving in."

I tried to get a closer look at the new neighbors to see if I could recognize them, but the rain from earlier this morning made it hard to see through.

"Ugh... I need to wipe down my window when I get the chance."

Then, a thought came to mind. Why don't I just ask my mom if we can go next door and say hello to our new neighbors? Sounds like a pretty good idea!

I slid on my flip flops and made my way downstairs to the kitchen, where my mom was sitting at the dining table, drinking her coffee and watching her shows on her iPad.

"Hey, mom!"

Mrs. L/N: "Oh, hi sweetie! What have you been doing all day?"

"I've been sitting upstairs, watching the new neighbors move in. I saw the trucks outside getting their stuff."

Mrs. L/N: "Oh, so THAT'S what all that noise was this morning! I could've sworn it was a whole bunch of construction. They must be done with that house now, huh?"

"Yeah, seemed like it. Um... hey, mom? I kinda wanted to ask you something."

Mrs. L/N: "Of course, honey. What's on your mind?"

"Well... I was wondering if maybe... we could pay a little visit to the neighbors' house? Y'know, give them a bit of a welcome?"

My mother smiled.

Mrs. L/N: "Awe, that sounds like a great idea! Although... do you think we could do it tomorrow morning? They probably need a chance to settle in and stuff."
